Aliza really wants Lupine dead, and I don't think she's picky right now about who she has to go through. She'll hate herself for it later if we let her succeed at hurting anyone, though.

Ordinarily, he'd just be targeting Zari, but he has to figure it'll help Venti and Caeli to know what they're trying to stay within.

First, moss covers the street for around a twenty meter radius — then patches of grass, wild flowers, rocks — finally the trees. They sprout up, grow tall, blocking out the city with a thick canopy of leaves and branches.

And the cottage is still in place, but he places trees so that they run through it.

The idea is to block enough of her sight line that she can't see them, but the trees are otherwise pretty insubstantial. Gotta be able to get to Zari through them, after all.
