[It does take them a minute of that before they get the trick of it, and then Emet-Selch can indeed hear and feel them rumbling. Cardinal's eyes drift half-lidded.]

I've had this one before so it's familiar, but even beyond that some parts of it feel very natural.

[Cardinal continues to purr contentedly at Emet-Selch's analysis. But the next task makes them huff a bit—they've been overly preoccupied with their negative memories lately.

There was a game where Amaranth and I stripped each other in armed combat. She cut off my shirt—[Cardinal indicates a line down their chest, one that matches the visible scar there.] A milometer off and she would have vivisected me. [They sigh dreamily.]

You should play with the Spardas. At least Vergil and Pistol. They do enjoy a good fight.

I have never seen Amaranth in combat yet. Though she is Persephone's mother. Does she also possess such wondrous abilities?

Vergil's always too cranky to play but I've talked with Pistol a bit about her love for guns.

Amaranth is favored by a war god, so her abilities are particular extraordinary in those areas.

Ah, what is your thought on guns?

I had almost forgotten each of them were patroned by one god or another. I should not be surprised.

I'm better at guns than I am at anything else. I remembered breaking a world record.

[Sufficient time has passed they can no longer stop themself from touching Emet-Selch's feathers, so they reach up to stroke their fingers along them.]

[What looks like feathers is actually, well, masks and hard crystal. It is not soft at all and looks like it is both heavy and they really don't fold. What a bad design for wings!]

[Emet-Selch's words evoke a brief, melancholy look, but it is swept away by astonishment. They skip back a couple of steps so they can get a better look at them.]

Forms are like water to us. We can change into anything. My form was quite more monstrous at the time, but I these wings were ones I had when I fought the Hero from the Source.

[Cardinal traces one of the masks, eyeing the wing patterns and trying to guess what the rest might even look like.]

Of course you are fascinated. And I don't see why not. Though if I had to wager a guess you would enjoy phantasmology as well.

But what would even count as something 'unnatural' in a world where you can make anything?

While we can make practically anything there is a natural order to it all. For example, animated armor is still considered strange and hardly can be found in the wild on its own.

But I thought the ability to make intelligent constructs was normal? Just not ones with 'souls'.

Normal, yes, but not natural. Life does ebb and flow without our meddling.
