[Cardinal used the time to disappear; they're no-where in sight when Emet-Selch takes up his station. Things are quiet, no sign of movement.

Then the breeze picks up, swaying the trees in the distance.

And above Emet-Selch: a soft whoosh of displaced air. Aiming the warpstrike so that it doesn't harm Emet-Selch means Cardinal has to appear a fair height above him, high enough that it gives them a few seconds of freefall for Emet-Selch to notice.]

[It does take a moment for him to look up and he simply smiles, amused beyond measure. Oh, how he just assumed they would be restricted to their newfound abilities.

And so he stays still looking up.]

[Cardinal realizes Emet-Selch is not moving and has about half a second to figure out how to grab him while upside down. They manage it, twisting their body so that the weight of it swings down sideways when they fist an anchoring grip into Emet-Selch's shirt. This also has the benefit of not slamming their full body weight into Emet-Selch's chest. Cardinal's laughing, tail whipping wildly back and forth in an instinctual search for balance.]

Cardinal.

[He will wrap his arms around them so they don't fall.]

You really do love you thrills.

You were right, the thrill of the hunt does excite me. You should have run some more.

[But they're content with this situation, too. Once they're stable their tail starts swishing gently back and forth.]

I was a scholar, you know. Books and sitting down in front of fires. The life of being this active is not one that suits me.

[He's being dramatic.]

I see your tail is betraying you. I could drop you from this height. Would you simply teleport back up?

[Grins at him.]

Yes. But getting bounced is a little tame for my nerves; Take me somewhere.

Somewhere...

[He has to think about it for a moment, but what if he drops both of them off at the top of one of those really tall bridges.]

[This is an excellent choice. Once Cardinal has their feet, they tip their face into the wind and inhale deeply through their nose.]

[Emet sits.]

Ah, I should of known you'd love the wind. Personally, I enjoy the sound of the water.

It smells much better out here.

[Cardinal sits next to him after a moment. They briefly rest their head against his arm.]

And I can hear the water so clearly with these ears. [The cat ears swivel.] Good choice.

[He wraps his arm around their shoulders. Pondering for a moment before speaking.]

You and I seek the same goals, but we are so different. You enjoy living among while I take favor in sitting back and watching. I do believe people do forget. That we can all want the same outcome, but reach it at different angles. That neither approach is flawed.

[personal profile] deicider 2020-10-26 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Cardinal sighs, relaxing further against him.]

It seems less like people forget and more like they don't know it in the first place. [mutters, a touch irritated] Or they don't bother to have goals because it's easier being helpless.

It is also easier to blame someone else.

But we all listen to the same wind, see the same stars. A pity it can't be more peaceful.

Now you're just taunting me.

[But they don't say it with any heat.]

Taunting you? That was not my intent. I know you can see the big picture though you are ever an idealist.

It doesn't do me any good to see it if I can't see how to make it happen.

I do believe you are too hard on yourself. It takes the community to make such changes and for one that is difficult to sway.

You forget I used to do that all the time.

[A frown.]

I know there are a lot of reasons I can't do it just now, and shouldn't, but it's still annoying.

Do not think I'm doubting your skill, but you did have an entire organization backing you, did you not?

That was also organization put into place by me.
