[It's finally here! The Fancy Dance!

The lobby has been rearranged for optimal ball experience, with all the furniture pushed to the edges of the room to create a proper dance floor. One area has been made into a makeshift stage for performances!

Along the outer walls of the area, tables of food have been set up. Apparently range of food was the name of the game here. There's a full salad buffet, a pasta bar, plates of meat skewers, little burger sliders, delicious meatballs, sushi, onigiri, steamed buns and more. There's a range of desserts as well. Cupcakes and little tiramisus and mochi and brownies and what have you. And of course there's an array of red foods and desserts available for a certain young lady. If you're thirsty there's punch and tea available. Or perhaps you'll be waiting for a helpful Baritones to help spike the punch?

The decor is simple white tablecloths with an array of flowers and some simple banners. A few of the areas look like they may be good photo ops.

For now some fancy instrumental music is playing, the perfect tune for a dance with that special someone.

[Arriving fashionably late in the 11th hour, probably after some people have left or are now reasonably drunk. Was that on purpose? Maybe. Who's to say.

Regardless he finds Maki wherever she is in the room. With that dress, she's fairly easy to spot.

Sorry, dear, he didn't have time to go shopping for the event so he's just wearing a white suit that looks as functional for a board of directors meeting as it does a ball]

[At this point she has chatted with a bunch of people and maybe danced with a couple, and is taking a break to quietly drink a cup of punch.

She looks obviously pleased when he appears, though.]

It's been pretty fun so far.

[Moving closer so he can tap the cup of punch with one finger]

Alcoholic or not?

[tilts the cup a little]

Some of each. Which I guess is still alcoholic, but the spiked bowl was a little too strong for me.

Too strong for you? Maki. Are you a lightweight?

[Takes the cup from her hand and takes a sip. If someone did spike the punch, they were probably going big anyway]

I just don't like drinking things that are too bitter.

[And she's a lightweight. The punch in her cup tastes just perceptibly alcoholic.]

[Holds the cup back out to her]

Yes yes, I remember. Only the sweetest wine for you.

[And leans over to kiss her before she can even move to take the cup back]

[She is looking at the cup, so that move is a bit of a surprise. But she certainly isn't complaining, returning the kiss after a beat to react.]

[Laughs against her lips as he pulls back. Here, Maki. You can have the cup back. For reals this time]

Oh, it does affect your reaction time.

[huffs, and takes the cup back]

I'm relaxing a little!

[Still looking fucking smug as he wraps an arm around her waist]

Of course. So how have you been relaxing?

[shifts her weight to stand closer to him easily]

...Drinking, eating sweets, talking to people. Dancing with a few people.

With people that could actually dance or no?

Some of them weren't bad. Are you interested in doing better?

I can do better. But I wouldn't do it to prove myself to them or you.

[She finishes the last of her drink, sets it down, and slides her arm around his back as well]

[And heading toward the dance, shifting to place her arm in his since that makes for easier walking]

Do you know how to dance?

[Walks with him, staying close, though her eyes slide to the side at that question]

...It's not like I've learned anything formally. But I can keep rhythm and follow a lead, and it's not like this is a formal dance competition. Knowing specific moves isn't as important as moving with your partner... right? That's the fun part.

So this time you'll be following my lead? Is that what I'm hearing?

This time. Assuming you really know how to dance.

[Leads her to the center of the dance floor. As if he would pick any other spot.

He shifts so he can take one of her hands in his and places the other one on her waist. Very classical ballroom style]

I said I did, didn’t I?

[rollplayinghouse]

[She raises her free hand to his shoulder.]

You did. But you say a lot of things.

Careful. Or I might thing you're insinuating something about my character.

[And he steps into the dance, leading her into the steps. It's classical ballroom dancing done via muscle memory, very reminiscent of someone who grew up among wealthy and influential social circles.]
