I need to learn how to deal with birds. My teammate is also a bird and I have no idea what that means in regards to how I interact with him.

In one's youth, one was a crane like any other — of average size, bearing average plumes. Well, hardly average, else one would not be standing here before you now, would one! Ha ha.
"Sakura" was once the same, in his youth. Not a crane, however — a bird of prey, sharp of talon and broad of wing. A fighter from the start, no doubt.
At a certain level along one's journey of cultivation, one's form becomes malleable, as easy to don or doff as an outfit of human clothing, and for the same purposes — for utility, or convenience, or curiosity, or even a change of pace. Many ultimately settle into a form that feels most comfortable. Such is the form you see before you now — a body sculpted to fit the shape of one's spirit. One is quite pleased with the results, if one may say so!
One has most often seen Sakura in the shape you see him now. One has not inquired into the reasons for this preference, as they do not seem particularly relevant — presumably this is the shape he feels fits him most appropriately, or hinders him least. Everyone has their reasons. Why, one once knew a serpent who chose the form of a huge man with not just one pair of arms, but two! Making up for lost time, perhaps! Ha ha.

Ok. So when I first arrived, he didn't help me at all, he just gave me a book and said he's a bad teacher, but he didn't even TRY to teach, so how could he be a bad teacher?
And then when I ran a Live, he didn't understand the concept of "fun" like he's some kinda alien, and then he painted a bird, probably just to appease me, because let's be honest, I wasn't going to let him just NOT do a painting.
And then today with this "game", he didn't want to send the poison out to anyone, but when Valor suggested that we do, he did not even try to argue it, and when I asked him why he just said he didn't want to waste words and so I told him "hey bud did you know words are a renewable resource?" which was a really good line I think, and also it's TRUE but mostly I don't think it's right that he is so unwilling to TALK that he won't STAND UP for what he believes!!!
[Yes, he said that all in one breath and now he's panting]
SO WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY is like, why doesn't he TALK if he's some jacked up Demon Conquering Magic Eagle Guy???

Never has one known him to mingle with laypeople, and one suspects he may yet be unfamiliar with humans and their myriad baffling customs...

...Furthermore... one's impression of him in the distant past -- which may or may not be erroneous, mind -- is that he is rather goal oriented. Akin to a hunter's falcon, he waits on the glove for his master to aim him at the intended prey, and once cast alight, ruthlessly dispatches it with absolutely no regard for his own security. His purpose is to hunt, to kill, and aught else.
Here, in this realm, what is his purpose now? Who are his enemies, and for whom does he fight?

[That's not too bad. Amity just needs to find a goal that resonates enough with the guy to get him to fight for it, maybe. Self preservation obviously isn't it.]
Uuugh. He doesn't seem to want to protect himself much, but neither is he really strongly moved by protecting others, but his whole deal is "Conqueror of Demons", so why does he conquer demons if not for those reasons? Besides, weren't we kidnapped by demons? Why isn't he out trying to kill those guys?
[This is a real head-scratcher!!!]
I don't really even know what my end goal is, but it feels bad if he just will do whatever even if he doesn't wanna.
