Is resting in this realm so efficacious that this sort of ailment may be remedied with sleep alone?

I am already perished. It is a sad state of affairs that I am still walking.

If you believe you are able to fix my current predicament, I would be relieved though.

One presumes a great many of those gathered here have perished at least once, in order to be in this realm in the first place, no? Plainly death alone is not enough to cease our existence, nor our ability to think, feel, suffer, or carry on with daily life. Thus, let us not be pedantic about it; it is self-evident that, in this realm, the term "life" refers to the ability to perform the actions a creature might perform while alive, and "death" refers to the imitation of death -- that is, a heart that no longer beats, lungs that no longer breathe, a soul that no longer inhabits mortal flesh -- regardless of one's actual status among the realm of the living. Otherwise, words shall lose all meaning, and the concept of both "harm" and "mercy" shall lose all relevance.

Admittedly, one has yet to observe what passes for "death" in this place, as presumably we are all dead to some degree, and yet we all persist. But one is certain it must be clearly distinguishable from one's default state, else the audience would starve for lack of entertainment.

. . . Does that mean you shall not help properly put me to rest?

If no one shall, I've no choice but to figure out a suitable plot of land myself.

Do not misunderstand, one is not averse to offering assistance. If it is simply land you need on which to rest, we are surrounded in abundance.

What sort of land do you require?

Something peaceful perhaps, but easy to dig. Perhaps beneath a cherry tree?

Hmm.

Not far from the communal domicile, there is a small cluster of small lakes and large ponds, surrounded by sunlit stands of trees, and meadows of short, plush grasses. There, the only voices are those of frogs and crickets, of turtle doves and wagtails, and the occasional songs of courting crows.

One has taken up residence there since one's arrival, and thus has had some time to appraise the area. A number of cherry trees in scenic locales come to mind. One would be willing to guide you to them for you to evaluate.

Please allow me to recoup a little bit of strength, and then I shall be happy to follow. I must break the news of my untimely demise to my cousin, first.

Just my cousin. Though there are a number of people from my homeworld who reside here, and many more who were here in the past.

Intriguing.

One has also encountered a surprising number of familiar faces in this realm. It cannot be an accident that we should all wind up here, one surmises...

My theory is that once someone has been taken from their home, the program simply finds it easier to keep drawing from those who might be bound to that person in some form or other. Like a whirlpool has been created, and it simply continues to pull from the same spot, catching various others in its path.

That would explain some things, if true.

One shall assist you in finding a place to rest at a later time. At present, what is it that you require that one might be able to provide?

If you might be able to find another handkerchief or bit of cloth that is acceptable to ruin?

Kerchiefs appear to be in short supply at present, but one did locate this hat, which is constructed of fine cloth. Will this suffice?
