Even now? I adore how dedicated you are despite overwhelming odds.

...I did sort of make amends with the unitmate who snarled at me before. Not easily, since she decided to be something of a jerk about it, but I kept my temper. [ Considering how Aliza blamed herself, someone being a jerk means something very different than just being mad about what happened. That, she'd accept and agree with. ]

Is that so? 'Tis good to hear. And I'm very proud of you for keeping calm.

Thank you. She didn't make it easy, either. She walked up and bit me without a word.

Maybe it might seem like a minor thing, but for me...

[ Doctor probably knows without her explaining that biting is a very intimate thing to her, not something one does without consent. When she did it, it was because her hand was forced in a game, which was hard enough without someone thinking that doing it back to her was an appropriate way to get past it the whole mess. ]

Well, that's highly rude at the absolute best, even if it weren't you. [And since it is her, that's obviously not a good idea, what the fuck.]

Yeah. I don't know if I explained it well enough, but I said that wasn't an okay way for her to feel like we're on even footing again.

I know what it's like to not have the best skills with people though, so I'm going to try not to hold it against her.

As long as things have been settled.

Settled sort of. It's a work in progress with her, always is.

I feel... like half a mummy. But better than half bleeding, so I'll take it. Thank you. As soon as I find a sIV to help these the rest of the way along I'm at least getting my face de-scarred.

If I see one who remembers that they can heal, I'll send them on to you.

Do you need some help with the scratches on your face? I'm sure you can talk me through it.

Ah, no, I can handle that on my own well enough. Physician treat thyself and all that.

All right. Can I just rest here while you do that? I'm -- pretty tired.

[ Her hesitation there is probably for nothing, she ran the thing twice, who wouldn't be tired? But even so, being tired will always make her wonder. ]

[Even if he'll be a little distracted until he gets his own wounds treated.]

[ She curls onto her uninjured side and almost immediately starts dozing. It occurs to her just before she passes out that she probably also needs some blood since she lost so much... ]

[She can ask for it when she wakes up, because when she wakes she'll find Doctor curled up next to her, also taking a much-needed nap.]

[ When she wakes up, everything is really fuzzy and moving takes a lot of effort -- not a great sign. Aliza reaches for her blood pen, but she's weak enough that she fumbles with the pen and drops it. ]

Stupid. [ she whispers, while she puts a weak hand on Doctor's shoulder. It'd be nice to let him sleep, but she can't compound one dumb move with another one. ]

Doctor? [ Her voice isn't that strong, so she tries to shake him a little. ]

Mm? [He blinks blearily, then takes in her expression and snaps to attention.] What is it?

[ She takes a long breath. Long and ragged. ]

Lost too much blood.

[ This is the problem with the way her body's set up, she doesn't get hungry or slowly more and more weak, it happens all at once. On one hand it helps her function optimally for as long as possible, but on the other... this. ]

[ She squeezes his shoulder weakly. ] Sorry. [ Seeing her like this can't be fun. ]

No need to apologize.

[He brings his arm up to her mouth for her to bite into.]

[ She looks at his arm, then back to his face. ]

But... it's not sterile? [ He'd said something like that about drinking blood in the clinic, hadn't he? Things are a little hazy on a number of levels. ]

You're badly enough that I don't want to make you wait. I'll clean extra well later.

[ She wants to insist she can wait, but she really can't. It would probably be worse for him if she tried to force the issue, so -- okay. ]

[ Instead she leans down toward his arm, tracing the arterial pulse with the tip of her nose -- inside of the wrist hurts too much, so she moves partway toward his elbow. Her fingers lace through his and she kisses his arm before she bites. ]

[He breathes in deeply when she bites down, gently squeezing her hand. It always hurts a little, but he's much more concerned about her than his own comfort right now.]

[ Whatever the misgivings she sometimes has about it, drinking blood is amazing. It's like pouring vitality directly into her. She does hate that it hurts him, so she pulls her fangs out as soon as she's strong enough to draw out his blood by sealing her mouth over the punctures. ]

[ By the time she pulls back to take a breath the flow is only a trickle, and it drizzles slowly down his arm. It won't do to waste any, or to make a mess, so her mouth chases those drops toward the crook of his elbow. ]

[ She could definitely stand to wake up like this again, when it's not so dire. ]

There you are.

[He gives her hand another light squeeze, smiling gently.]
