[Immortal things!]

Yes, quite right, quite right. It is easy to get away with it when shaping a subject's dreams, when they are naturally in a more suggestible state. But much more craftsmanship and attention to detail is necessary in the waking realm.

—In any case, before one gets on another tangent, let one describe to you the location in which the phone is cached. To the west-northwest of the communal domicile there is a strip of garden along the road, and in this garden are several bushes... [god, there are like 320948573098 bushes in Tokyo-F]

...Fie. If only one had a map with which to show you with greater ease. One specifically chose this spot for discretion, thus there is an underabundance of descriptors one might use to set this particular place apart.

I don't mind a search. It'll acquaint me better with the bushes. [ grin ]

In all seriousness, some time outside the dorm seems advisable for any number of reasons.

[Unfortunately, it's really well-hidden, so the search is probably going to take him soooo many hours, rip. If only he had a small rectangular device in his pocket that had a map on it so she could point it out, but she doesn't know what it could be, and cannot suggest it. u_u oh well. good luck on your quest, gentiana]

Did things go poorly?

[ It's fine, hours are something he has in abundance ]

Not as well as I would have liked. I was more or less left to make the decisions alone, despite the physical presence of others.

[ And then people learned why making agreements with the Fae is a bad idea, figured it was just him being stubborn, there were accusations of callousness and control issues flying, it wasn't great. ]

[personal profile] cloudretainer 2022-10-06 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that an unwelcome thing, to be allowed to make your own decisions?
stoneandstave: (076)

[personal profile] stoneandstave 2022-10-06 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Only when it comes to harming others who have done nothing to warrant it, especially when I was given a good deal of restrictive demands. I then insisted if the choices for where to direct water and remedies were mine alone, then so was the choice about who got the remedies we were sent. After it was agreed upon, there was a good deal of... debate. [ Whinging, really. He wasn't unsympathetic, but... ]

I didn't do as eloquent a job as I might have of explaining why going back on an agreement isn't something I can easily do. By mortal standards, it was needlessly stubborn.

[ Smiling ruefully. He can't help what he is. ]

Can't go back on an agreement? Did you sign a contract?
stoneandstave: (098)

[personal profile] stoneandstave 2022-10-06 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't understand why affixing any writing to it would matter.

Most of the agreements I'm aware of end with a line such as "lest the lightning strike me dead" or the like. It's -- my nature. I can't explain it better than that. To undo an accord would run counter to what I am.

I offered to alter it if the other party to it agreed, and they wouldn't.

Alter it how?

[ every culture has these stinkers ]

We never got that far. The consensus seemed to be that I be left with both the task I found distasteful and no choice of which remedies I would have to consume. On the ground that I wouldn't regret it, or something like that. It got heated near the end.

Regretful indeed. [ Not that he'd necessarily change much in retrospect except perhaps being able to explain himself better. High stress situations will have that challenge. ]

[personal profile] cloudretainer 2022-10-08 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
So, to paraphrase: all the members of your team believed they would have too many regrets to make any meaningful decisions of their own, so they surrendered all control to you regarding how the team shall play and who shall take the pills you received. However, they were dissatisfied regarding your decisions.

Is that accurate?
stoneandstave: (059)

[personal profile] stoneandstave 2022-10-08 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Essentially yes. The first attempt was for me to control the play and also be left with whatever remedies they decided to leave me after first having their choice, but I said they couldn't have it both ways.

I did consume a remedy that made me unable to lie before I insisted, so that may have been a factor as well.

[ He has a sense of fairness that is a bit extra and couldn't hide it as effectively after that. But mostly he can't imagine who would be okay with "I'm not only going to abdicate all responsibility for how this goes but also start downing the remedies I prefer before anyone else has a chance to decide anything for themselves". ]

[personal profile] cloudretainer 2022-10-09 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Were they leaving you with the worst ones?

And how did the honesty factor into the dissatisfaction of the others?
stoneandstave: (086)

[personal profile] stoneandstave 2022-10-09 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure how to define "worst" but I didn't like not being given the consideration of at least a discussion.

The honesty? It only made me less likely to go along with things. If I weren't so afflicted I might have let it alone more easily despite it being distasteful.

[personal profile] cloudretainer 2022-10-09 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Ah.

One now understands from whence the friction arose.

Truly this competition seems to have had less to do with harming other teams, and was more a competition of free wills between teammates.
stoneandstave: (159)

[personal profile] stoneandstave 2022-10-09 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
So it was. Normally I'd be loathe to walk into such ab obvious trap, but fairness and agreements are evidently two things I take fairly personally.

Of all the times to learn that about myself, hm?
cloudretainer: (6)

[personal profile] cloudretainer 2022-10-09 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hm.

Have you any regrets over how you played?
stoneandstave: (080)

[personal profile] stoneandstave 2022-10-09 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ considers this ]

The diplomatic answer would be to say that I could have been softer in my approach, given that it was a stressful circumstance.

But -- no, not especially. I don't hold any ill will over it, if others do then that is their choice.

And yourselves? How fared your war room?

[Huffs]

'Twas a frustrating ordeal, in which our hostages adamantly expressed the desire to drown rather than harm anyone, on our team or off. Against the wishes of those outside the orb, we agreed* to honor their requests as not to trample their free will.

[*citation needed]

However, after the first round it came to light that our hostages cared not at all for our free will, and had the tables been turned, they would have disregarded our desires without hesitation, and ceaselessly tortured themselves before our eyes for no reason whatsoever, even when it was not asked of them.

After that, we played enough to keep them from drowning their fool selves. -- Although, in what was no doubt a misplaced sense of kindness for our dear hostage's wishes to do no harm -- not enough to actually win and relieve ourselves of these ailments.

[she wiggles her toes uselessly]
