GHOST HUNT (the Prequel)

Where: THE GAME TOWER
When: NOW!!!

[You arrive to the game tower where today, the atmosphere seems to be quite s~p~o~o~k~y. Fog seems to cover the entire floor area and any visible area of the tower is covered by things like (fake) spiderwebs and also (fake) spiders hanging around in (fake) trees.

It would probably feel a little more spookier if it wasn't for the fact that music is blaring throughout the tower. Someone is a host today, but it's impossible to tell whom considering they're covered in a white sheet with holes cut out for eyes.

Until they talk anyway.]

I GOT A ★~★~PROMOTION~★~★

To host the greatest haunted house party that you can imagine!! But w-w-w-wait, haunted houses are s-scary! I don't wanna make you guys get too scared so we'll start small . . .

Small . . . tiny . . . miniscule . . .

It's still gonna be dangerous though!! Ghosts are PRETTY uncontrollable, ya know~? I've seen SAWoleen XVI, I know how it goes!!

[ He stares at him a moment, lips trembling, fat tears in his eyes as he struggles unsuccessfully to swallow down the emotions bubbling in his chest. ]

They all died...! Uu... Uuu...

[ Burying his face into his hands ]

They all died because they were trying to protect me.

[ He looks at Tsukasa.

Looks at the bodies. Idly can't help but wonder, what the hell did they think they were going to be able to do to a ghost? How many of them even had experience with ghosts that weren't the house, or maybe even the hotel? Just --

Okay, put those feelings aside. They won't do Tsukasa any good regardless. He just reaches over to pull Tsukasa into a hug. ]

[ Usually, this is where he'd straighten from the sudden physical contact, unused to those touching him so familiarly or in such a friendly manner.

What he does instead, is wrap his arms around Lark in turn, grip shaking from his tears and tight. ]

I- I couldn't do uu... a thing.

[ He tries to rub circles into Tsukasa's back to help calm him. ]

Breathe, Tsukasa.

[ Why do they do things like this to them? What sort of person finds pleasure in watching others suffer like this? He doesn't understand. He'll never understand. He's just an idol. What did any of them do to deserve being put through games like this over and over again?

He hiccups and cries against him. It's unseemly. He hates crying in public. He hates letting the producers see him like this. He hates being weak. But it all spills forth anyway, surrounded by the bodies of those who tossed away their own lives in order to try and protect his. ]

[ He'll hold onto Tsukasa for as long as he needs to. It's not like he really has much else to hurry about, in any case.

...Honestly, he knows there isn't any point to him feeling upset about it, but it's hard not to be if he thinks about it. Ye gods. ]

[ It takes a while. He's worked up enough that it takes some time for his breathing to even out, his diaphragm contracting from all the sobs, which causes occasional short and sudden intakes of breath.

He feels so ashamed. His head and throat hurt from crying so much and his eyes are tired and puffy, his cheeks blotchy with red. He's exhausted. When he finally does speak again, it's quiet, eyes covered by a raised arm. ]

I... I apologize. For my unseemly behavior.

Uh, Tsukasa. Four people ended up dead after they hid you, and you had to watch them die, I don't think this is unsuitably 'unseemly' behaviour.

I was not the one who was hurt though. I just... I feel so wretched.

So you're saying you don't feel hurt by what happened?

No... no of course not. I feel sick to my stomach. So much that I feel I could be sick. I can't get rid of the feeling I felt in my chest each time someone-

[ He pauses because just thinking about it is just as bad as relieving it. ]

But... [ He covers his eyes with the back of one of his hands. ] But I feel so foolish. Nothing happened to me, and yet here I am making a scene. I wasn't even scratched.

...You know, just because you didn't get murdered doesn't mean 'nothing happened' to you.

I just... I don't know how to respond to it all.
