How did she make it that far with that level of resolve...? I assume it wasn't even someone who cared about you specifically.

Oh no. We got off on the wrong foot, so to speak, at the murder mystery game. And I've not wasted my time on her since.

But after she pressed the button she kept saying "what do you want from me" and babbling about how they played last time. So she wasn't even fighting to protect her unit. Not primarily anyway. She just wanted people to think favorably of her.

So what, she expected you to be happy with her after she forced you aside?

She wanted my understanding.

And I told her exactly how I understood her character.

I feel like that's not actually what she wanted.

No, not really. A lot of people here are hypocrites like that. They want it both ways. To do what's necessary but still be seen as good people doing their best.

She pulled the exact same move as Doodles.

Maybe two weeks from now when there is some new fresh trauma, I'll find the comparison horribly entertaining.

Maybe. It is a pretty egregious example. But I feel like that sort of thing happens all the time. People do the same things in games, but depending on who it is and whether they make a show of crying about it, it's either heartless and evil or tragically noble.

Not this one. Things were actually fine for me, this time.

Mm. They picked... some rough matchups, so I wasn't happy about anything I had to do, but I would have be less happy making any other choices, I think.

...I've always been pretty solid with them in games, really. It was just particularly notable in this one, due to... the contrast.

But I do also think things are slowly getting better.

I remember a time where you thought you shouldered most of the responsibility in games. It appears that doesn't seem to be quite the case anymore.

And so-- if it wasn't you or Man Eater or Doodles.

Who won this one for you?

It wasn't quite like that. I mean, I did carry the space game, but it's not like it was always like that, or that I didn't want the responsibility. It was more feeling like... my failures were criticized more and my efforts were acknowledged less, compared to the rest of the unit. But we've talked some about it.

[huff.]

Anyway, it must have been Requiem who won, but she ran out of here right away. I need to see what happened.
