BETRAYAL AT THE HOUSE ON THE GAME TOWER - Session 9

[ The GAME ALERT and map show on the screen of your phones— idols, you know what to do!

The Game Tower elevator doors are open to receive, and close once they have you in their confines and the broadcast monitors click on. You can keep an eye on the city further and further below you, as watch with your host's introduction to today's game.

At the very least it's not Mukuro's face on the screen this time. Instead it's Exael again, pigtails bouncing as she hops up from a grand low bow— it looks like they cut part of her broadcast spiel for you guys. With a showman's flair, she twirls and splays her arms as the camera zooms out to focus on a grand mansion, more Hollywood glamor than anything belonging in Tokyo.

"Summer has come to Tokyo, and so has the season's specialty: The Trial of Courage! Step right up, and charge right in because waiting won't help you at all! Here is a place even angels fear to tread! Azzy's very own, The House of Mirth and Betrayal! This place has a sordid past that casts a shadow as long as the valley of death, and soon our Idols will be adding their own pages to the tale!"

The elevator stops atop the central tower of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building and then lurches unpleasantly, wrenching itself out of where elevators ought to go. The sudden movement jolts you, and when the doors open you spill out into into a room.

Hopefully, with not too much time missing. ]

[Cool. Cool.

She's just going to bang bloody hands on the mirror a few times before breaking into a sob.]

[just. staring. she killed him so fast he's still trying to process it.]

[She has not yet processed it, honestly; if she was processing things she might have tried something more reasonable. So after a moment she just turns to look at him, eyes watery and blankly horrified]

[...y'know what this seems like a lot, I'm going to take my impotent rage out on Sanguine instead]

[You know what, that seems fine. She does not actually care about him, and what else are they really going to do at this point?

She leans her forehead against the mirror and tries to get her breathing under control.]

[turns her way once he's axed Sanguine a bit. he's blood-splattered and panting and still holding the axe, though not in an overtly threatening way.]

...Maki.

[She has gotten herself together somewhat, if by that I mean all emotion has drained from her face as she stares at the mirror and calmly ignores sounds of bloody dismemberment.

She turns at his voice, however. She is also still gripping Sanguine's knife, though more like she's forgotten about it than anything, and she looks him over to make sure he's okay.]

[his gaze is a bit distant]

I...

[he pauses, searching for the words]

That escalated quickly.

Yeah. It did.

[she cannot even manage to find humor in the understatement]

...I don't know what all happened, but it seems like no one can be trusted anymore.

[she glances down at the bloody knife in her hand and absently wipes it off a bit before sticking it in her belt. at least it seems like A is still an exception to 'no one']

[he does not show the same concern for cleaning his axe. his grip on it loosens and the blade touches the floor]

H was clearly unhinged from the beginning, but E seemed... normal. I didn't suspect a thing.

I don't think you could have been expected to.

[weakly, looking around at the mirror and corpses which are probably still bleeding out]

It all happened so fast.

[flatly:]

They'll come back.

Are you sure?

[that had been sort of implied by some of the crazed rambling but that's one thing]

No.

[taking a seat, laying the axe down beside him]

But it's about as plausible as anything else that's happened here.

[yeah, sitting seems like a good idea. sits beside him on the opposite side from the axe]

It's true, this whole thing is like a nightmare. It probably wouldn't just end like that.

There's no reason why it would. If they can really reset time, they can keep us here indefinitely.

Surely people would get bored of watching this eventually.

Perhaps.

[...]

Boss won't be the same the next time we see him.

[there is weird wrenching feeling in her chest and she flinches visibly]

Probably not, if... the others are anything to go by.

...maybe I can pull him out?

[seems unlikely, and probably he should have thought of it a little sooner, but he gets up and goes to prod at the mirror]

[blinks and also rises to watch, faintly hopeful]

If anyone could, I guess it would be you.

[his hand won't even go through though]

It's no good. Maybe because it's cracked?

Maybe... or maybe it just closes up once someone's inside. Who knows how magic mirrors work...

[comes back and plops back down]

We should plan for next time.

[slumps, both at his lack of success and the idea of a next time, but she forces herself to consider it]

...Should we try to meet somewhere else? I got lucky and there were stairs up to the entrance hall this time, but obviously that's where everyone ended up.
