--what the fuck. That's definitely some kind of bullshit ethics violation!

[WHY ARE COPS LIKE THIS?

WHY ARE ADULTS LIKE THIS?!]
noteablekiller: (028)

[personal profile] noteablekiller 2018-12-28 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh...

[kind of disoriented, lifts a hand to his chest where he can feel his heart going like he just ran a race]

...y-yeah. There was... a reason for it, though...
criminaljustice: (137)

[personal profile] criminaljustice 2018-12-28 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, I guess if the situation with that killer is that bad--but even then...

[just... jesus what.

and that's your dad?!]

But also making it the terms for releasing you--isn't that unlawful confinement and then entrapment in the form of terrorism? Police Chief sanctioned, even?
noteablekiller: (054)

[personal profile] noteablekiller 2018-12-28 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[Blinks a few more times and shakes his head]

...yeah, my dad was -- is? -- the police chief.

He didn't want to do that. I think... he was doing his best to prove my innocence...
criminaljustice: (177)

[personal profile] criminaljustice 2018-12-28 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[hhhhhhhhhnnn...]

It's still really fucked up.

... but I guess if he was trying to prove it... he at least believed you.
noteablekiller: (044)

[personal profile] noteablekiller 2018-12-28 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems like... somehow I ended up in a 'really fucked up' situation.

If I'm understanding correctly, they were looking for a killer who could take a life even when bound and held up at gunpoint..? Misa... they said they thought she'd be able to kill someone just by seeing their face.
criminaljustice: (218)

[personal profile] criminaljustice 2018-12-28 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
... well. Cops can be superstitious...

[but yeah, that... sounds like you have a Power User serial killer?]

But being so thorough's probably... because there's a lot at stake.
noteablekiller: (061)

[personal profile] noteablekiller 2018-12-28 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[time to think about this real hard, muttering this information to himself as much as to Joker]

Ryuzaki... L. A great detective that the government of Japan is relying on to hunt down... it must be a very dangerous serial killer. Apparently while I was 'locked up', killing had 'stopped' but then 'resumed'. That means multiple people died while I was imprisoned.

Based on... what I was thinking at the time, this should have been proof I wasn't the killer, but L wasn't convinced, and used my father to create a situation where he felt that a killer.... that this 'Kira' would kill even his own father to survive, and would have the ability to do so.

Even though I was handcuffed, unarmed, and had been recently imprisoned, Ryuzaki still believed the killer would have been able to save himself in that situation...
criminaljustice: (251)

[personal profile] criminaljustice 2018-12-28 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[kind of deadeye stare at the whole "great detective" business but like. his experiences with detectives are largely... biased. and he knows it.]

And even with all of that, he decided to put you on 24 hour surveillance because he still wasn't convinced. Just how much of a sociopath did he think you were, anyway?

Pretty sure even a sociopath wouldn't be able to bluff his way out of that situation.
noteablekiller: (009)

[personal profile] noteablekiller 2018-12-28 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember holding L's intelligence in very high esteem... So the real question is what did I do to make him so suspicious of me..?

Or maybe, just how well did the real Kira frame me?
criminaljustice: (136)

[personal profile] criminaljustice 2018-12-28 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
... I mean, there's always Occam's Razor, too.
noteablekiller: (060)

[personal profile] noteablekiller 2018-12-28 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
...that L himself is Kira?
criminaljustice: (057)

[personal profile] criminaljustice 2018-12-28 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
... I mean, yeah, that.

But also L is right about you being Kira.

But that would involve a lot of like... high tier acting. Or. Something. I dunno. Possession?

If he's as good as you say he is, then it'd stand to reason it could be either of those options.
noteablekiller: (043)

[personal profile] noteablekiller 2018-12-28 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[wow, rude?]

I'm not Kira! Proving that was the entire point of what happened there. Even L couldn't dispute it.

I'm sure... concern about possession or something like that might be part of why I was imprisoned, but...
criminaljustice: (135)

[personal profile] criminaljustice 2018-12-28 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
And the 24 hour surveillance even when this whole bullshit scene should have proven your innocence.

... I don't disbelieve you when you say you're not Kira. I'll say that much. I don't think you're lying.

But if there is some... super power or ability that Kira uses...
noteablekiller: (062)

[personal profile] noteablekiller 2018-12-28 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Something like the ability to manipulate people's hearts..?
criminaljustice: (177)

[personal profile] criminaljustice 2018-12-28 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[... i mean. got him there.]

I don't think I'm Kira.

For one, that's assuming we're from the same time and place. For another, you were definitely younger there, so even if that was the case, I would have been like... I dunno. What? Fourteen? Younger?
noteablekiller: (053)

[personal profile] noteablekiller 2018-12-28 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think you are, that wasn't my point.

But you acted as if the government wanting to stop someone with your kinds of abilities was unfair, but I think concerns over 'what can be done with that kind of ability', even if you would never do it, are exactly why it would need to be stopped.

You may only be interested in using power to make the guilty repent, but what about if someone else gets a hold of it and uses others to commit crimes they'd never otherwise be capable of?
criminaljustice: (074)

[personal profile] criminaljustice 2018-12-28 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[wow.

i mean. fair?

but also lol. actually gonna be a little shithead about this, still.]

Maybe I'd think better of the government if the government wasn't run by the man who ruined my life by blackmailing a woman into accusing me of assault and getting me convicted on false charges before I had any power to do anything.

[i'm too old to get baited into an argument about this]

I'm not saying that no one in the government is corrupt or that you don't deserve justice for any crimes committed against you.

But 'trying to stop vigilantes with the power to change people's hearts' is something the government should be doing.
criminaljustice: (282)

[personal profile] criminaljustice 2018-12-28 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[r u sure?

well, either way, Joker's just holding up his hands in a shrug]

Maybe they wouldn't have to if they weren't complete shits at doing their usual jobs of stopping assholes who are just assholes.

But what do I know? I'm just a kid, right?
noteablekiller: (055)

[personal profile] noteablekiller 2018-12-28 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[yes

shakes his head]

Are you just yelling at me because the people you're actually mad at aren't here?
criminaljustice: (300)

[personal profile] criminaljustice 2018-12-28 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
... maybe.

But also because you're making excuses for what's clearly an abuse of power, chasing after a mass murderer or no.

There are laws that are supposed to protect innocent civilians from this kind of treatment, right? Even when the stakes are high? So why the hell are you just letting it be okay that you were treated that way? All in the name of some greater good they can't even guarantee when they break the social contract by disregarding their own laws?

[RIDDLE ME THAT, MR. SON OF A COP]
noteablekiller: (061)

[personal profile] noteablekiller 2018-12-28 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[frowns and rubs at his jaw a bit]

I guess because... I knew I was innocent, and it was a practical way to try to determine that.

...But you're right, it was still a violation of my rights. Even if I understand the motive behind it, it shouldn't be something forced on a civilian.

[gestures with a And There We Are manner]

So we're on the same page with that, at least.

Whether it was necessary or not to catch that Kira is up in the air until they actually do catch Kira. But if they don't, then they wrongfully imprisoned you and threatened your mental and physical well-being for no reason.

That's not how things should be run. No matter how dire.
