[Cosmo is rocking a look. Minus the plague mask, it's just his normal mask. He's got a set of fruity drinks in front of him, and he's leaning back with a drink in hand.]

"Risk" and "Reward".

Half of these drinks are non-alcoholic, most of the rest are quite potently alcoholic, a few are drugged.

The risk is obvious, the reward is engaging in the live. Or perhaps in avoiding the traps.

The drugs are one of three kinds--a potent psychedelic, a numbing agent, and something to get you a little hot under the collar. Do take it elsewhere if you get that last one.

[He sips his drink.]

Of course some say the best way to win at gambling is not to play, but where's the fun in that?

I see. And how do you feel about the circumstances of your creation? What does it mean for you now?

I know someone in a similar situation. I'm not trying to project that person on you, but I hope my understanding of it can help me sympathize.

I'd also like to help you, if you're amenable to that.

I was created and abandoned as a defective. Had I not been, I probably wouldn't have cared. I wouldn't have a consciousness of my own at all.

I resent the circumstances of my creation, and I hate my creator. And that will never change.

But I don't need help.

If you don't need help, is there anything else you'd like?

Aside from another excuse to perform? No.

Why was your friend created?

[tradesecret]

Spare parts, or to be a test body for experimental drugs and procedures. The person he is a copy of was a concert pianist and their mother was doing whatever she could to preserve his career. It was a dream job she wanted to have for herself, but couldn't obtain due to an accident that took away her ability to play.

But That Man grew bored and walked away from it all. My friend was deemed useless. As he grew to remind her more and more of her lost dream, she tolerated his existence less. He went to live with That Man instead, only to be manipulated by him as well.

I was hired as part of that plot.

Mother of the year. And I thought mine was already bad enough.

So you manipulated that person, only to become his friend in the process? What an exciting tale.

It was fun for me, but also cruel of him to do. That man wanted to push him to a breaking point, but those who never had anything to begin with never trust when something— or someone— just falls into their lap.

So he never trusted you to start with. Not surprising.

I was used by both of them.

Yes, but also to understand you better. Your circumstances are similar, but not the same.

Did you stay with your creator?

No. I was a failed prototype, and she went on to make better models before eventually settling on the correct Puppet.

She didn't have the heart to kill me, so she sealed me in an empty mansion, and left me to slumber there. I wasn't supposed to wake up, but I did.

The last time I saw her I killed her.

I do suppose the start of another story is more accurate. I ended up setting in motion a series of events that caused my death afterwards.

...do you regret that?

Will you use whatever power is here to go back?

[ he considers whether he wants to answer her truthfully, quiet for a few moments before he answers ]

I don't care that I died, and I don't regret what happened. Maybe I feel just slightly responsible for some aspects of it, but I hated my world and it can all burn for all I care.

I won't go back there. But I have no intention of staying dead. I'm thinking of traveling across different worlds.

[ she understands that feeling and doesn't make any attempt to argue with it. ]

Well, if that's the case, I hope we might be able to travel together, at least for a little while.

Oh? Are you inviting me to your world?

Oh— no— I mean—

I have no intention of going back to mine, either. And if the worlds across time and space are so wide and varied, I couldn't imagine staying in one place.

Is that so? How surprising. I do feel the same.

Well, I don't mind traveling together for a little while.
