I assume you mean then that it is a skill you have acquired since arriving here.

I simply am commenting on how you go above and beyond to make sure that others are tended - both their needs being met and knowing that they are cared for.

But that is not the conversation I meant to have.

Or at least, perhaps not directly.

Do you mind if I start while you are cooking? Perhaps the distraction of doing something with our hands will make this a bit easier on me.

Perhaps it is just my age, but loss is a well acquainted concept - through normal and abnormal means over the course of millennia. That does not make it easier to deal with, just more practiced in the motions.

But I also think someone who does not dabble in the fantasy of those pleasant memories or the opportunities lost is a lonely individual indeed. As long as it remains that - a fantasy.

What're you trying to say?

I believe the past to be equally important as the present. So the moments and lives touched should be cherished, treasured and also mourned. But time moves ever onward, and as painful or joyous as the past may be, we cannot neglect the future. Or even what we have now in the present.

So let it go and appreciate the here and now, huh?

No. I do not believe I can recommend letting go of it.

It has a place in your life just as everything else does. But we should use it as a lantern to guide our next steps rather than a chain to hinder our movements.

That is merely my advice to use or discard freely.

Your life to this point seems to have been quite difficult, filled with more violence and loss than I would hope for. And yet you still persevere and attempt to see the good in all things. And do good towards others.

Don't always pull it off, though.

Is it necessary to always pull it off?
