Perhaps it is just my age, but loss is a well acquainted concept - through normal and abnormal means over the course of millennia. That does not make it easier to deal with, just more practiced in the motions.
But I also think someone who does not dabble in the fantasy of those pleasant memories or the opportunities lost is a lonely individual indeed. As long as it remains that - a fantasy.
