But a man who's been secluded to that extent with only dull memories to win back could make an interesting kind of idol. Someone discovering a new world for the first time in his life is beloved trope.

It's an interesting trope, but not something you would apply to an idol. If anything you would apply it to a robot or a clone or something.

Robots can be idols! The idol journey is all about growing into becoming a pro entertainer. You want to see your idol get better and better, not stay at the same level all the time.

If I were invested in an idol and their memories were so dull I'd write a letter ordering them not to take any more of them.

That's still showing interest in an idol, which is what's most important to the show runners.

Still, surely there would have to be something interesting in the memories they did take! They wouldn't choose completely unremarkable people to kidnap!

Unless it's not about the past, but the present and future!

They wouldn't let us regain our memories if it wasn't at least partially about the past.

Unless that's purely for our own motivation, to keep us from blowing all our points on indulgences.

An interesting theory, but what would keeping us from blowing our points accomplish for them?

Littering the city with junk. Did you notice how clean it is around here? I mean aside from the rampant destruction that one unit does.

Right, but it's also self-repairing. No reason why it can't be self-cleaning.

Five hundred cars isn't really junk if we paid for them all, but five hundred cars sitting motionless on the streets would block the perfect view of us idols.

—Do you think there's an upper limit of permanent objects they can generate for us? Theoretically, since this is a closed system, could we overload their capacity and force a shutdown?

I think it could be something worth trying. But we'd undoubtedly have to rack up a lot of points to make that work.
