[ The game starts with you in elevators, the doors jammed shut. You can keep an eye on the city further and further below you, but there's no introduction to today's game.

It's just as well. Those of you who recognize it need no introduction to it. Those of you who don't couldn't be prepared by any host's opening spiel, anyway.

The elevator stops atop the central tower of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building and then lurches unpleasantly, wrenching itself out of where elevators ought to go. The sudden movement jolts you, and when the doors open you spill out into a room.

Hopefully, with not too much time missing. ]

[ Still have your minds? Try to hold onto those, as long as you can! As long as you're safe and sane, the goal is to explore as many rooms of the house as you can-- first come, first serve! Only the first person to explore a room gets the points for it.

If you lose your mind, you'll turn traitor to those around you, and you won't be able to help but try to do what the house wants you to do. With the house pushing upon you, both physical and mental distress are a danger to your sanity. Take care.

And take heart, too, even if you do turn traitor! It's another goal, and if you're doing badly at the other, this is a way to win! You haven't lost it all yet! Especially since the traitor goals are worth more points with the audience. ]

OOC Instructions:

Each team will have their traitor goal provided in a locked post of their starting room. Do not share your goal OOC, though do pay attention to other players' Do Not Wants when violence does occur.

Each room will be described with one paragraph of flavor text, which you can use to interact with each other but does not mechanically do anything or have dice rolls. Following the flavor text, the exits/entrances to the room will be listed, with one additional paragraph listing any other effects the room may have attached. Interacting with specific aspects listed after the entrances may give you stat bonuses, or stat detriments. Be aware of that! Flavor text from the first paragraph has no stat stuff attached.

Ping the runner the first time you enter a room, so we can get the description up for you.

The first time a room is entered, the first post will be descriptive. The second comment beneath that will be an event/item, unless the room does not have one attached, which would be noted in the first comment. Please wait for the second comment before responding to top-levels if you are the first person in a room.

If you are not the first person to go through a room, you can just comment beneath the top-level, there will not be another event/item for it.

Make rolls in the Discord roll channel as necessary. Rolls are made with 3 sided dice, minus the number of dice you're rolling, so zero is possible. Use the command .roll Xd3-X in the #dicebot channel on Discord, with X being the number of dice you're rolling.

If your character loses all of one stat, they lose the battle of the wills to the House. All their personal morals and concerns are overridden. If it helps, think of it as being possessed by a vengeful spirit. Those who have turned traitor do not get points for exploring rooms. The possessed do not need to reveal their status OOC to other players, as many Traitor goals need to be performed in certain areas-- it is up to player preference if you are going to overpower another PC and drag them there, or trick them to going somewhere with you. All traitor characters know the whole map. The insanity effect is temporary, and lasts only as long as the game does. Characters turn traitor on an individual basis; if a character hits a sanity break, it will not also impact their unitmates.

Stat sheet changes and traitor status both carry over into a new session. If your character ended a session with +2 might and -1 speed from their starting positions, they will start their next session with +2 might and -1 speed from their starting positions. If they turn traitor, they will remain a traitor until endgame.

Any team that completes a traitor goal is automatically a winner. If less than half the units complete their traitor goals, then the remaining winning units will be those who explored the most rooms.

TOP FLOOR

Sewing Room

[ You enter the sewing room. Mannequins with their torsos shelled in marble and split down the middle in both ways with the teeth of gears dimly visible within are arrayed about the room. An industrial serger and sewing machine stand at attention side-by-side, fed with a web of black thread, and set to work at speeds that an unwary amateur could easily lose a hand to. Beads glitter like dark eyes in drawers, fabrics are rolled into corners like shrouds. Confined within the closet are chewed-up suit jackets and slacks, awaiting the repair all this was arranged to do.

There are exits to the south and the east.

If you are carrying an item, you may feed it to the sewing machines. It will be punctured and made useless by the needles, but you'll gain 1 point in a physical stat, either speed for getting yourself out of the way before injury or strength for stopping the machine and turning it back off.

This room also contains a dumb waiter. ]

Nursery

[ You enter the nursery. It doesn't seem to belong here, in this house, a nursery. Though it hardly seems to be a nursery, on first sight. The walls are plain, unadorned wood. The desk has an inkwell and a blotter with the handle shaped as a coiled serpent. Inside the desk are ancient papers, rough-cut from a time before mass-production and each perfumed differently: red wine, black musk, myrrh, and attar of rose, with sigils unfamiliar and largely unreadable from stains and blots written out in shaky hand. The room is piled with atlases, scrolls in dead languages that detail nations long fallen, records of people met far in the past, never to be met again. They look well read. The only real sign this is a nursery is the bed— it's too small for an adult.

There is an exit to the south.

The first time you enter this room, gain 1 sanity if it's below starting value, but lose 1 sanity if it's above starting value. ]

Widow's Walk

[ You enter the widow's walk, climbing up a staircase to the outside. You are above the roof, walkway gated by low iron rails with elaborate scrolls of metallic-wrought vines, leaves and thorns. Some of the vines, when looked at closely, feature scales, revealing them to be designed as creatures well-camouflaged within the foliage. The railing reaches only to the waist-- it is best not to move too fast up here. From here you can see the rest of the mansion spread out beneath you, the layout unscruitable but less so than it is from the inside. You sometimes see flickers of movement within windows and out in the gardens.

There is an exit to the west.

When rolling in this room, add 1 to the results of Knowledge rolls, and subtract 1 from the results of speed rolls. The lowest this can make your roll is zero. ]

Drawing Room

[You enter the drawing room. Withdrawn far into the house, it doesn't seem like many guests could have ever been entertained here. Nonetheless, it's ready for the occasion. Most any occasion, actually. A large dining table, with a black mirrored surface stands at the center of the room, surrounded by tufted couches in black fabric with an oil-slick sheen. A roll-top desk stands by a bookshelf stands by a display case stands by an easel stands by a coat-rack. But that said, the room is occupied by strange silhouettes-- not the shadows of the damned, animate and three-dimensional. These have been painted onto various pieces of furniture, people that aren't reclining atop couches, sitting for their supper, as if to keep company someone locked away deprived of it.

There is an exit to the north, and to the east.

There is also, upon searching, a dumb-waiter in this room. ]

Roof Landing

[ You arrive on the top floor landing. There are exits to the north, west, and south.

Some of the wallpaper on the wall to the east looks slightly loose, indicating a door hidden behind it. ]

Panic Room

[ You enter the panic room after working to pop open the seam in the wallpaper in the stairway landing and pulling up the heavy metal shutter door. The door slams down behind you as you enter.

It's surprisingly richly-appointed, for a room that one would hope never to use, with a dark leather sofa and dark wood cabinets for provisions and basic essentials. It'd make a comfortable place to hide—if the walls weren't painted in a perfect, deep imitation of blood red.

There's a dumbwaiter here shut behind a heavy metal door that slams down when not held open—the only other entrance or exit, if only you could cram yourself in there.

Dumb-waiter aside, there is only one exit, to the west.

When you exit, you may attempt a speed roll of 3+. If you succeed, you may move to any room with a dumbwaiter. ]

Bedroom

[ You enter the Bedroom. The decor reeks of sleaze— black floors polished to a mirror shine reflect you from below, the walls leather panelled, set with studs and mounted with sturdy rings. Leather straps and braided cord hangs from the coat hanger, and the bed is rumpled, unmade. An ornate side-table is topped off with expensive bottles of booze, more half-emptied than full. A dresser drawer is open, everything inside looking to be made entirely of black lace.

Attic

[ You enter the Attic. The air is thick with dust, as if no one's been here for a long, long time: underneath the lush shag rug, the floorboards creak under your feet as if ready to give way at any point. In fact, there may very well be holes that you can't see, indents in the rug too difficult to see past the the gaudy design, especially in the dim light. There is no light source in this room, but you can vaguely make out the contents: there's the shape of a bed with similarly gaudy design as the rug, with boxes and boxes of miscellaneous items, including creepy little porcelain dolls if you decide to open them. And this thing. If you thought the junk room was bad, well - it's honestly still pretty bad. This place looks like it was actually used for storage intentionally; even so, it's still pretty cluttered. Pull the curtains off several of the tall-standing objects in the room and you'll find full length mirrors or vanities or both, with boxes wherever there possibly can be. It looks like someone did use this room at some point for something entirely different, though - in the corner between the bed and the wall is a stack of pillows, empty alcohol bottles, and a broken lamp.

There are exits to the west and south.

To tread back to the entrance, you'll have to make a Speed roll of 3+. If you fail, you'll lose 1 Might from getting your foot stuck in one of the broken floorboards hidden underneath the shitty rug, although it is easy to get out from. ]

Rookery

[You enter the rookery, via the long, winding stairway leading up and out to it; the floorboards of the stairs are discolored from exposure to the weather, stained a dull greyish-brown.

The rookery itself juts out from the house, a circular outcropping, and as you approach the room the cacophonous cawing of crows can be heard from the upper rows of rafters, built to house the birds.

There is an exit to the north.

The sides are open-air, and you can look over at the house and into the yard from here. You may look out from above to discover which floor a particular player is located on.]

Locked Room

[ As you enter the locked room, it lives up to its name. There is a click of lock snapping shut behind you, and not just in that direction— all the doors are now sporting handsome padlocks, old-fashioned and inviting you to pick them. It's like this is a game— you have been locked in, but surely you can get out, can't you? Come, try your luck. Step right up. What have you to lose? But, more to the point: you can't stay here, surely. The room is near empty, full of chests already pilfered and emptied of their wares. With nothing left to keep, perhaps the room is trying to keep you to refill its lonely chamber.

There is an exit to the north, the way you came. To enter or exit through a locked door, attempt a knowledge roll of 3+ to remove the lock. This room is a dead-end. ]

UPPER FLOOR

Tower

[ You enter the Tower. A spiral stair encases the shaft of it, leading to a singular room at the top. Search lights atop the roof beam up into the dark above the Tokyo skyline, demanding attention. Anyone not attending the game must see that something is happening at the Game Tower. Ascend to the top, picking your way through the splintered wood of where something destroyed the still-locked door, and you enter the tower. Even with the wind at this altitude, the air is stale, and the room is littered with wrappers of cheap snacks that wouldn't last anyone long, more a taunt than a lifeline.

The only way out is the door to the South, the same way this room is entered from the mansion at large. It's a dead-end.

This high up, the cold is numbing as it whips around you, and the house, awful as it is, seems the only respite. You'll need a Might roll of 3+ to slam the door open and return to the gallery. Fail, and you'll injure yourself and lose 1 Might in the process of yanking it open. ]

Menagerie

[ You enter the menagerie. Though it is a large room, it is not a large menagerie. There are few beasts within. A powerful black lion, a species that… by all accounts should be mythical (though maybe hell is not the place to quibble about that) lounges in the center of the room. There are no cage bars to hold it back, apparently given full run of the place. Rocky outcrops of stone throughout the room, a few brush species of plants in containers, and twinkling lights set into the ceiling above. You are lucky, and the lion is sleeping soundly, undisturbed by your noise as birds trill songs and cover the sound of your footsteps about the room.

There is an exit to the east.

After the first time you enter the room, you feel more confident for having been in proximity to such a mighty beast without waking it-- gain a physical trait in either strength or speed ]

Research Lab

[ You enter the Research Laboratory. The rest of the place is party, party, party but the laboratory is stark white: business. It almost glows off through sheer force of cleanliness alone, never mind the dim lighting. The only color comes from dye stains on sample slides and petri-dishes, little medical caps in orange prescription bottles. The labels are. . . not helpful. "Toxoplasma abomination bullshit", "Belhor's, do not return under any circumstances", "massive sleep dep in a bottle", and "ingest if feeling lucky". Probably don't take any.

The exits to this room are to the south and to the west. ]

Gallery

[ You enter the gallery. A wide brassy-railed mezzanine, it encircles the ballroom below like the spectator seats of some grand coliseum. Statues engaged in obscene and immoral acts are ensconced in recessed archways behind pulled back sequin curtains, all of them seeming like they could be party-goers caught at their absolute worst, and petrified— literally— by discovery.

There is an entrance to the north, east, and the south.

You may also choose to jump to the ballroom below . . . It'll hurt if you do. Take 1 die of physical damage if you choose to do this. ]

Theater

[ You enter the theater. From the back of the home theater is a projector, designed for old film reels. A reel winds through it, black and white footage projected onto a blank expanse of wall at the front of the room, red velvet curtains drawn to either side. Arm chairs are available, for guests of the house that would wish to watch. The film's footage is of an old-fashioned magician. He and his assistant do tricks, of no great interest to any modern audience-- a rabbit from a hat, the woman sawed in half. But if people stay in the room to watch long enough, mid-way through the final trick, when the man has entered the vanishing cabinet, and appears in the other, a man from the audience leaps up and guns the magician down. There's the loud fire of a gunshot coming close— too close, as the projector sparks and the film pops, the sound that rings out a twin to the gunfire. But if you exit the room, and re-enter, you'll find it fine, and it will begin to play again…

Operating Lab

[ You enter the Operating Laboratory. An operating room table reclines in the middle of it, the outline of a body visible underneath the sheet. An array of satellite lights spotlight the chair like a stage, and monitors all around it are ceaselessly reporting no activity. And on the walls— photographs. Of an arm, a pair of pretty eyes in someone's face, a slim pair of legs, dexterous pianist fingers, and more parts upon parts upon parts. Three guesses where they went, and the first two don't count.

Upper Landing

[ You enter the Upper Landing. An opulent staircase from the lower level curves an elegant line to the landing, to down below. The dark mahogany of the flooring almost hides the rust blotches and trail, where it looks like something bloody was dragged unwilling up them, leaving desperate scratches in the wood.

There is an entrance in all four cardinal directions: the north, east, south, and west, as well as the option to take the stairs down a floor or up a floor.

The room itself offers no particular dangers or advantages. ]

Master Bedroom

[ You enter the Master Bedroom. It's an exercise in decadence more than it is a room— the bed not immediately obvious for the clothes piled over it. Expensive clothes spill over the edge of it, drape off the back of every chair, drape over the couch, hang from the chandelier— dresses bedecked in jewels enough to weigh down a body like an anchor, black silk suit jackets, Italian and bespoke. Nothing in here could have been worn more than once, all of them torn in very exacting ways, the buttons all sliced from this shirt, the back of this dress split twain, seams splitting down to the waist. The wardrobe is empty save shoes, and the bedside chest of drawers has only knives and seam-rippers.

Solarium

[ You enter the solarium. It should be bright and airy in a room like this, but the atmosphere is oppressively humid, and some of the plants have overgrown across the windows, creating a sort of canopy. There's an odd, sickly-sweet odor wafting from somewhere, and some of the ground-level plants are more on the order of things like venus flytraps and pitcher plants. A container with a small hole dug invites you to plant something yourself.

There is an exit to the east.

Once per game, you may discard an item, planting it in the ground, here to gain 1 sanity. ]

Conservatory

[ You enter the Conservatory. It's been designed like a birdcage with art nouveau bars sleek and too thin to pass through even if you were to break the glass. The plants here are gorgeous, boughs of potted trees and vines weighted down fruit-- recognizable pomegranates, others more strange and unfamiliar. The flowers are all in full bloom despite the dead of night, perfuming the air thickly.

Event: The Left Hand

You hand begins to itch. Then burn. The pain is overwhelming and you can do nothing clutch your hand and scream. The scream dies in your throat when you realize you can't feel anything in it now. You attempt to wiggle your fingers and the hand moves of its own accord towards your throat.

Choose one:

- Cut off your hand. Lose one might and gain one sanity.
- Replace your hand. Lose 1 might, and draw an item card.
- Keep your hand. Lose 2 Sanity, gain one might, and exit the room you're in, moving towards the nearest unexplored room.
