[ he had thought about how he could answer her and putting what happens back home to words just seemed really difficult. especially if he wanted somebody to believe him, since who in their right mind would fight with cards? everybody back home, apparently! ]

[ questions about his relationship with king are always something he expects, so he simply nods. ] Sure, what's the question?

[it does not make any sense, but she is not going to question what his obvious feelings on the issue are... her fingers lace, voice delicate]

To not be on the same unit as King, how much does that pain you?

[ of all of the questions he regularly anticipates this is not one of them. he swallows thickly, trying to keep his expression neutral, but it's difficult, and it briefly flickers to something pained, because this past week has been especially hard on them for that exact reason. ]

It pains me a whole lot. In some cases it's almost unbearable, but going forward I'm going to do my best to do right by both myself and King, because keeping ourselves and each other safe will help ease the pain...

[reaching a hand out to him across the table, trying to be there for him physically, at least]

I cannot imagine, but . . . But I will do my best to see your will realized.

[ he stares down at the table in an attempt to focus his thoughts on something else, because he can feel himself starting to crumble. when she reaches for his hand his gaze snaps up and he blinks, surprised, but oh so grateful. ]

I, t- that... [ he stammers another couple of words before taking a deep breath and giving her a smile. ] Thank you, Glacies, that means a lot to me. [ more than he can adequately put to words, actually. ]

I agree, though some of the games they make us play make that next to impossible. We can still do our best though...

Mm. What we can do may not be much, it's true, but I do not think the choice to do nothing at all is ever forced upon us. It is our decision.

[ glacies seems like she'll be a calming presence in the thick of it, which is much needed, especially since rise is gone. ] Yeah...
