Pep regroup
Who: peps + visitors
Where: pep!quarters
When: Day 133 (post game) through day 134
[Even though it's summer, everyone's cold and hungry for some reason. Time for some midsummer oden. It's got the works: hard boiled eggs, root vegetables, fish cakes, dumplings and tofu of all shapes and textures. There's plenty for everyone. It's a feast.]

Thanks.
I'll do my best!
Sitting is perfectly fine. Don't want you to have to lean on that one on your chest. Hopefully this won't take too long.
[gestures for him to sit]
Let's do it!

Let's do it.
[ he's just going to close his eyes and think happy thoughts for this. ]

I'm putting on an anaesthetic gel that'll turn the area completely numb for a few hours, so you won't feel a thing.
It takes a few minutes to start working. Would you like me to show you how to dress some of the smaller cuts in the meantime?
no subject
[ the gel starts to work it's magic, which earns a sigh of relief. ]
Man, this stuff is no joke...

Here, let me show you how to dress these smaller guys.
[He starts cleaning one of Yugi's less-serious wounds with water, explaining how not to use hydrogen peroxide but use antibiotic ointment, instead; he shows him how to apply butterfly bandages, as well as how to make larger bandages out of gauze and medical tape.
It takes no time at all before all of the smaller cuts are dressed.]

Alright. [ he pays close attention, soaking in all the information like a sponge, but also asking a question or two, because he just wants to clarify a few things. but cobalt is a great teacher, and yugi's definitely sure he'll be able to put this knowledge to use in the future. ]
You did that like it was nothing, Cobalt! Thank you. [ he'd hug him if he wasn't half numb and covered in bandages. ]

Let's see how the anaesthetic's doing.
I'm poking you with the dull end of the needle right now. Do you feel anything?

Another thing that Yugi definitely doesn't need to know right now is that Cobalt has never actually done this on a real, live human being before.
He did try it on a dead pig at one of John's first aid classes once, though. And it's thanks to the literally hours of practice under John's strict guidance that he's willing to even attempt this on Yugi at all.
That said, when he starts working on Yugi, he does so with 10000000% CONCENTRATION, WITH MORE CARE THAN HE MAY HAVE PUT INTO ANYTHING IN HIS ENTIRE LIFE. He puts MAXIMUM FOCUS on every small motion of his fingers and the spacing of the sutures and the amount of pressure he puts in the thread when he ties off the knots.
It goes mostly okay. Once or twice he messes up a suture and has to pull it out to try again. But the end result is... acceptable! He's obviously no surgeon, and he may have taken a bit longer than someone with more experience, but what he did will certainly get the job done.
It's definitely a lot tidier than what he did to that poor pig, anyway.
He cleans up around the wounds and covers them each with a bandage, and then it's over.]
Whew. Okay. All done.

[ he has no idea he messes up a couple of times, but it's really irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. cobalt gets the job down, yugi starting to shift towards the end, because he's getting a bit restless. ]
Yeah? [ tries to look over his shoulder. ] It went well, I take it? Thanks a lot, Cobalt.

[WHEEZE]
While these guys are healing, clean around the stitches gently with a damp cloth once or twice a day and put the bandage back on like I showed you. I'm happy to help you if you have trouble reaching, too.
No soaking or swimming for a few days, okay?
no subject
I think I can handle that. I'd really just like to relax the next couple of days anyway. Here's to hoping we catch a break.

[takes off his gloves and ruffles Yugi's hair.]
Let's go eat some oden.
no subject
Thanks again, Cobalt.
[ going to head out to grab some oden to eat. ]
