[ Good morning, zoo friends! The sun is not exactly shining today, but you're locked in your dorm!
And the newbie is curiously... not in his room? The door's unlocked, open and still unchanged.

[He leans against the wall just inside the kitchen, watching the newbie zoom around as he explores the kitchen. He can hardly blame him. He hadn't been much different upon his own arrival, save some amount of caution from Viking life.]

[ He seems way too at ease with everything else - or maybe he's just focusing on the fun stuff. Either way he doesn't wait before pointing at an oven nuzzle: ]
Would you move that little button three times any time I make the water go whish?
no subject
[He moves over to the oven.] All right.
no subject
Come on! Isn't it amazing. The water flows in really fast! And that warms without a flame. It's like magic.
[ ....Rye's been here longer than you have, Callum. ]
no subject
Isn't it? [Listen, it's been months but its still cool!]
It's not magic though. Well, technically not, this place gets a little weird, but there's a scientific way it's done that anyone can do if they have the skills.

[ He's going back from the sink to the fridge - opens the door to the cool air as he thinks about it. ] Do they just put little tiny fires underneath and there's a lid the button takes on and off?
no subject
No, it actually uses electricity. There's a machine that can generate it and I can also explain how that works...mostly. I understand the parts at least.
But I also know if I start, it'll be hours before we get the doors unlocked. [HE KNOWS. Because that's what happened with HIM.] So we should cover the basics of where you are and get the starting tasks done.
Then I can answer all your questions. Deal?
no subject
[ But given everything else about this morning maybe that much is obvious... ]
A machine - what - [ He stops himself from continuing his line of questioning a bit sheepishly. One hand goes to the back of his neck as he glances away with a laugh: ] Um, yeah. Okay. Caeli and Pretzel have told me a bit already?
no subject
[He chuckles and he looks amused.] Yeah, just gotta stay focused. Come on, we should go to the main room. [Going to check that everything is off and lead him to the main terminal.]
So what have they covered so far?
no subject
[ He can stay focused - mostly. He just has ten hundred questions as they head back: ]
Uh. There are games and lives. And we use them to get points to buy things like memories? Except the games can be not good and Wild City which is... This is Wild City protects its own. [ Said with some amount of hesitance like he's not sure how he feels but continues on: ] Also, Banthers don't exist here so I can't be a Banther and bread names are important.
[ #nailedit ]

Also there are people who live in space in some places, but its...bigger? Its bigger than that. Do you know what alternate dimensions mean?
Yes, this is Wild City. [He pulls out his phone and he'll scroll through the profiles for him to see.] These are your teammates. We'll hopefully be getting more soon. But yeah, our priority is to protect ourselves, and then we try to avoid doing as much damage to others as possible. [He still has his own conflicted feelings on it.]
I'm not familiar with Banthers, but yeah. Bread is the theme for our team nicknames. I'm Rye, by the way.
no subject
[ He could, but he's not. Probably. ]
No, no I don't.
[ He's seen the profile list, but he'll peer at it again in question - It's a lot to think about. And while Rye continues on about how they behave his expression falls before he laughs it off: ]
Caeli told me Elf-Boy isn't a name, but it seems pretty nameish to me! So I'm Matzah or he suggested Zefir... It's not really bready, but it's food? And it sounds right? [ Sounds windy! So he grins instead, offering a hand: ] So nice to meet you Rye, I'm Elf-Boy Matzah Zefir.
[ ...He's kidding. ]
no subject
I have a few books you can look over. Its a lot to explain and I only kind of have my head around it. My land has some concept of other worlds, but its also...very different.
[He's Noting That Expression, Mister.]
...I'm pretty sure we've have elves around, so Elf-boy might kind of insulting? I can't be sure, but I would probably err on caution for that. Especially since elves usually had pointy ears, but I don't know if that's true for all elves.
[He's just gonna goggle those real quick.] Zefir's do like kind of cakey which has been part of the bread thing. And multiple names are valid too, especially if we expand to more cake-like stuff.
Nice to meet you too.
Also, you're the type who wants to protect people, aren't you? [And he stops in front of the terminal, leaning to the side.] Pick a color. One you like, because you will be wearing a lot of it.
i missed a part
I wouldn't mind a book, it looks like there's a lot of reading to do around here. [ Which he's not opposed to but he's just feeling like a whirlwind - ] Oh? Oh, maybe you're right... When I think about elves it's like... bloodthirsty? Like an elf would totally kill me if they saw me, or any human.
[ Because that's what he was taught culturally - ]
So you think it'll work? Zefir, I mean. Matzah's fun cause I could tell a lot of jokes but I'm not sure it's very name-y.
[ That question, huh. He looks away, twists his fingers together in thought. He's quiet for a long moment and then offers: ] I'm not sure I should say anything because I'm y'know, so new. But I guess the idea of protecting just one group feels wrong to me? I'm not sure if the time came, I could make a decision like that. [ At least hr's scrolling while he listens and he's turn between two colors: a deeper navy and a more berry red - He seems conflicted before choosing the red. ]
Re: i missed a part
There is so much reading. There's a whole building that is bigger than the great hall in my village that's just full of books. Its amazing!
[...well then.] That is good to know and I'll say no, do not assume people are bloodthirsty. People just get mad when they're insulted, but usually people I meet here aren't trying to kill me for no reason? No matter what species they are.
Trust me when I say I have heard worse names than Matzah. Its your name and Zefir is still close to the theme and desserty can cover some other names, so its still in the theme.
Its incredibly difficult. [He doesn't hesitate to affirm his feelings because-] I feel the same. I don't like hurting people. I especially don't like letting innocent people be hurt if I can do something. But...when you have people you're responsible for...
Sometimes your decisions have to be made for them over what you make for yourself.
Re: i missed a part
[ The idea of having any kind of magic even here is kind of :O??? ]
Oh, you mean a library? Those can get pretty massive but that seems extremely massive.
I'll try to remember that. The whole not insulting people who might-or-might-not want to reasonably kill me.
I didn't say it was a bad name? Just. Not name-y. Not me. Zefir sounds a little better. [ Maybe because as he'll learn much much later it's a draconic word. ]
[ The response doesn't sound any better to him. It's not wrong, but there's something in his head about cycles and he can't really figure that out. So he pauses and then shakes it off: ]
...I'm still not sure about that. I'm sorry, but I'm not. I get it - But I think, I have to figure it out for myself. This is all kind of a lot.
Re: i missed a part
Oh, you have those. [Lucky.] Yes, a library. Its certainly bigger than anything I've seen.
Zefir is a good name. I like it. [It would also work on Berk, now that he thinks of it-]
[He reaches over and pats his shoulder.] I get it. It is something you have to figure out. And I will try to give you as much time for it as I can, okay? [He can't promise he will, games are a lot. But he deserves a chance to figure it out on his own if he can afford it.]
Re: i missed a part
[ Sorry Hiccup, he's still at least a couple hundred fantasy years after you - ] I do? I guess I do! Libraries seem pretty essential to the whole learning of things, seems weird there'd be places without them... Um, no offense.
Right? It's got a nice ring to it! A little flair - and! It's sweet. [ Becomes from a family of sweet tooths. Anyway, can't believe you're having naming epiphanies over here, Rye.]
[ He's still rather sheepish about it. There's a part of him that doesn't disagree, but it battles with a different part of him. He doesn't really get it. ] Thanks. I mean it. [ His shoulders go up and down with the wave of his arms: ] I won't try to get in anyone's way, I just - Have to wrap my head around it.
