Yes, I quite agree- about the memories, I mean.

[He chuckles.]

My penchant for finding myself in the worst situations available in this place is another matter entirely.

Could you perhaps tell me more about this realm of snow? Or the war between humans and dragons?

I feel the scales are a bit unbalanced - that you know so much of my story and yet I've only seen fragments of yours.

I could tell you, yes. Though, I might give you the abbreviated version, if that's alright.

The Dragonsong war is quite old. Though Ishgard's leaders originally tried to rewrite the cause, the truth is quite different. The Ishgardian leadership made the dragons out to be the aggressors when the truth was the complete opposite. Nidhogg's brood sister was the first victim and when he tried to take revenge for her eyes being stolen his were stolen in turn. The reason their eyes were taken is that it was thought dragon's eyes could grant a person immense power. Neither side could truly claim they were in the right anymore as they each continued to fight one another for every death or act of vengeance committed.

Those were Nidhogg's eyes that were corrupting Estinien. Ultimately, neither side would have won had Estinien died and the war continued.

Ah, I see. The quest for power can make many act in ways that would normally find repugnant. And history is often written by the victor.

I am grateful that your friend survived.

And hopeful this is one step in breaking that cycle.

I'm grateful as well. He isn't one who expresses his emotions easily, but he's a good person. I don't want to think about what would have happened had Nidhogg been able to take him.

It would be a much darker ending to this tale indeed. But fortunately that did not come to pass.

But it seems the conflict still remains. Are you still at war with the dragons?

I feel as if it must have resolved itself, but then most of my memories are a bit out of order. He came to rescue Alisaie and I when we were captured in Garlemald in my previous memory. He would not have left Ishgard if it still needed him as the Azure Dragoon.

A true friend indeed then. To accompany you far from the lands where he is comfortable to ensure your safety.

Or perhaps the new quest you've embarked upon is just that important.

It seemed just as important. The conflict in Ishgard and within the Garlean Empire couldn't be more different, but I imagine Estinien chose to help in our hour of need because he wasn't needed in Ishgard as much after the war. That's only a guess, though. I'm still woefully lacking in memories.

Of course. I do not mean to pry when you still have so much of your past to discover.

But I am glad you were able to remember such an honored friend. It is uplifting to see such a warm expression on your face.
