Right now? Mostly, yeah. I don't feel so sick today.

...I think it's just normal not to know what day it is down here, anyway...

[ absolute worst, and he has been going off and complaining about them, talking about being a defiant troublemaker before they had confirmation that the devices listen. whoops! he wants to throw knives at that Intensity guy's face. ]

Yeah, the days are weird... [ days are weird, he's been sick on and off, what even is this past... however long. ] Ah, anyway, I was going to make some hot cocoa. You want some? It's no trouble.

Um. ...Can I watch you make it?

[He doesn't really want to drink any, but he does like seeing how Kitchen Things are done.]

You want to? Yeah, of course. Come with me into the kitchen, I'll show you how to put one together.

[ heading in and gesturing for Nyx to come along! he's happy to show the basics he knows. ]

Mm, ok.

[As long as he doesn't have to drink it or actually do it himself and mess everything up (horror) this is Fine. Nyx will follow, standing near the counter or table Kitsu is working on but like, at a safe distance to not be underfoot.]

supplies: cocoa powder, milk, chocolate curls for the eventual whipped cream topping, a thick mug — gathered!

as he's pouring the milk: ]

Ah— the chocolate curls I grabbed are for later. Sometimes I like to toss them on top of whipped cream topping if I'm feeling especially, [ lonely, lost ] uh, like I want something a little extra sweet.

They're not part of the drink?

[The choco is all in the powder????????]

They chocolate curls are toppings, totally optional.

[ once the milk's poured in, he'll head over to show Nyx the cocoa powder. leaving the milk and other implements where they were! he's just got the powder in its container. ]

See, it's got little sugar crystals in the mix if you look close. The powder is mostly ground cocoa beans. I think I've seen some with fancy spices and flavors mixed in too, [ Kitsu, cinnamon and caramel are not all that fancy ] but this is the most basic.

Ohh... it's all ground up really fine.

[Peering at the mix Kitsu shows him. He wonders how they did that... magic? A machine?? By hand??? Mysterious.]

Yep! [ nodding! and heading back over to heat the milk. ]

It makes a smooth mix once it's done. Uh, you want to make sure there aren't big powdery chunks in it, those are... dry. Kinda unpleasant. Like getting a mouthful of flavored sand.

Do you crush those parts up by hand?

[Unconsciously edging a BIT closer for a slightly better look. Curiosity reels in the cat.]

Yeah, I do. I take the spoon and kinda- [ lifts the spoon, makes a gesture of him crushing an imagined object gently against the back of his hand, ] -press it to the side of the mug.

[ microwave's done! so he pours a bit of the mix in, beginning to stir. ]

Then I can go right back to doing this part, too. It works out. Really easy. [ wants to let Nyx try, but... just makes sure he can see the process. ]

...it looks easier than I would've thought it would be...

[There's still enough Distance that it's pretty clear Nyx does not want to try. His curiosity is sated, though.]

Right? It's a really easy thing to make as a pick-me-up if you like sweet drinks. Or warm drinks.

[ not pushing! has since learned not to dive right in and try without express permission.

now it is time

for fancy additions, aka whipped cream! and chocolate curls! he actually spends a little time getting just the right amount of cream. ]

... I, ah. I like to think my little sister would've liked something like this. So I try to have them once in a while in her place.

[Clearly the correct amount of cream and such is the result of CAREFUL CALCULATIONS and YEARS OF EXPERIENCE and that's where the hard part is. Clearly.]

[Not questioning that she's gone so much as the act of doing something like that.]

[ Nyx, sweetheart... the fear is so real isn't it. ]

It's not exactly the same as taking her place. Of course I'd rather have her just be here— not here, but. Alive. But she was always sick, always hoping life would be fun and asking me if mine was.

[ and it sure wasn't. ]

... Anyway, I try to do little things that I imagine she might've liked, if she got the chance. Honor someone who's gone.
