By the way, lab looks like this since it is brand new:

Across from the blank room, there is another room with a prominent lock-- this one a number pad lock. Like the rest of the dormitory, it's all done in white matte and silver metal. Across from the entrance, on the far wall is a singular table— a silver slab that hovers mid-air, locked in place unless the height is deliberately adjusted. A similar white slab chair also will float, seat wherever you choose to put it. Silver robot arms for holding things-- be it projects worked on or tools can be retracted or extruded from the walls. Despite how space-age the rest of it is, the tower computer that sits beside the desk seems pretty 90s, though it does come with a slick modern monitor.]

Inter-dimensional? Well, well, you must have learned something interesting.

I met with Exael today. She told me to catch the subway from Ichigaya station. All the lights went off when I got there in this place's usual sleight of hand.

And then I boarded this:

It's opened up to a picture of him on what looks like a normal train, except its full of "people." The other passengers don't seem to be quite occupying the same space as he is-- they have black outlines with silhouettes are something like people. They're also blocking seeing whatever is outside the train windows.]

Meet the audience - or the damned. Don't worry about the word choice for now. When I touched them it felt like my hand was going to fucking burn off, and they didn't react to my presence.

[ stares at it for a moment, eyes going wide ]

So whatever layer of 'reality' we currently exist on was superimposed on another layer of it, but not entirely... I saw some of those fan mails, I doubt the 'audience' would have let you pass without comment if they were aware of you. And Exael did that?

She opened the path to where she lives.

A Shinjuku busier, brighter, controrted. Shinjuku as you've never known it. Everything glows, every last window blazing with kaledescopic light, wrought iron and stained glass in all the windows. In the shadows cast from the light, the street is now filled with those who aren't quite occupying the same space as you-- black outlines. Their silhouettes are something like people. The sky shudders with stars-- none of them still in their celestial orbits.]

She exists on the same layer as the audience? Could any of them be a host, in that case?

Currently there are only two active hosts: Exael and Mukuro.

What we do know is that there are two factions: Heaven led by Exael's boss and Hell led by Azzy. When you graduate, you can choose either heaven or hell. If you choose heaven, you go home with your memories - which we can assume to be real if we're going to believe whatever Exael says. If you choose Hell, you get a wish granted and become one of the damned.

Well, it doesn't sound terribly appealing when phrased like that, but I suppose she represents her own faction, doesn't she... but that's interesting. The impression I got was that 'graduation' was much more sinister. That even one of the options is simply a return to the status quo is interesting. Did she share what the damned... are? By which I mean, their daily existences... do they just live normal lives on a different layer here, or...?

Put that question in queue for the next meeting. We didn't get to everything.

Oh and one more thing---

Seems like the Game Tower straddles the line between the dimensions. So much that Exael didn't even know what went on in her own fucking game she hosted.

It's also owned by R&D and the maintenance crew, which the hosts don't seem to tangle with.

... That is strange. She didn't even know what happened in a game she herself hosted? So the Game Tower is really that impenetrable, even by the actual agents of the system?

We guessed before that the tower was owned by Bel, of course, so it's not terribly surprising that that's the case, but... I wonder what R&D is researching? And what are they developing?

I'll compile all the notes into something coherent later for everyone to read. Maybe you can figure that out from all the scraps of information passed through.

More importantly, I want you and I to concentrate of figuring out a way into that Game Tower outside of a game. Even if it requires bribing R&D.

It does seem like the logical next choice. Perhaps I should invest in powers after all.
