Ah, well, you do have an elegant sort of presence, I would say. Which, if that's the sort of person you'd like to be, something that still evokes that feeling to you, perhaps...?

Yes, I think that's what I'm looking for. You would think that this place would give us a list of names to inspire us. . .

When I arrived here, one of my unitmates was able to list some names of birds for me, at least—ah, I'm Shrike, by the way.

Ah... what are some elegant names, I'm not sure. Something like... ah, Lace? Flora? There's a lot of flower names here, I suppose...

It's a pleasure to meet you, Shrike. Do many of your faction members also have bird names?

Sort of—ah, we have Griffin and Harpy, although I don't think that was really intentional.

. . . so, it's more of creatures with wings?

I suppose you could say so—although it's only three of us out of eight, so I don't know if it's really a theme, quite yet. I think alcheME, ZRAEL, and LiliS have somewhat particular name traditions, but not most of the rest...

I have been wondering exactly how deep the faction alliances fall. . . it doesn't seem very deep, actually. I'm not sure if I'm surprised or not by it.

Ah, you mean... how close-knit the units are?

Ah. . . yes, that. Or how distanced they are from each other as well.

Well, ah... it does seem like there's suddenly been a number of comings and goings, and that does change things. I can't speak for other units, but while we don't always agree on the best way to do things, I suppose though we haven't chosen our own company, we still care about each other.

In general, apart from in games, most units... well, try to get along, anyway. I confess your unit and mine haven't had the best history, although that grudge isn't one I keep.

I had heard that my faction isn't well-liked, but the person who mentioned it didn't have any idea why. Do you happen to know more about the conflict?

Mm... well, ah...

[ this seems like an awkward thing to drop on a newbie, but also: it's also awkward to not know about it, so... ]

At least, between our units—mine's avante en garde—a well-liked member of Taisho killed one of ours in a game in a way that felt, ah... unnecessary, I suppose. There might be more, but, ah—Yasuragi has since graduated, and only a few on our team go back that far, so things might change, though. I think Yasuragi was, um, particularly controversial.

[ she tilts her head a little, listening intently ]

I see. That's an understandable conflict, but I'd like to do what I can to help mend the gap. Do you mind explaining to me how the — I suppose, the consensus on necessary and unnecessary death?

Ah, well—it's a little hard for me to really explain well, since it was before my time and... my seniors are somewhat reticent to talk about it.

I think, ah... well, I've been talking to Kaguya on your unit, actually, about trying to repair things; I think she's heard some of it from Taisho's side already.

I see. I haven't met her yet but I'll see what she has to say as well.

She would have known Yasuragi, as well, at least a little, since he graduated a little while after she arrived, I think.

But, ah... it's rare of someone to think of unit relationships so early on. That's thoughtful of you.

Oh, thank you. It feels like natural instinct to me, so I'm running with it. I think that. . . well, I'd like to imagine us as a community. Maybe it's something I'm missing. . .? But to do that I need to understand more.

I think the people who've been here the longest have been here for... oh, four or five months? But as someone who's much newer, it seems like a lot happened even in the first couple months.

I would imagine that what happens is sometimes more important than the length of time outside of that.

And, ah, I suppose there's never really a dull moment, here.
