Of course there isn't a "surefire" way to help. Things aren't that easy. And sometimes there isn't anything you can do, and someone is going to get hurt no matter what.

But that doesn't mean you can't still try, and it doesn't mean it won't help, some other times. The problem with this game wasn't that either you or him had to die and you picked you and he didn't let you. The problem was that you decided you weren't even going to try to get through it with both of you alive. This wasn't like the balloon game, where half the units had to die no matter what. If the points had balanced out more, no one would have died. You sabotaged yourself.

I know it's hard, to keep feeling like there's anything you can do when you've messed up a lot, and when sometimes there just isn't. Like... in the princess game. But I'm here to tell you you can still make a difference.

[ he feels his chest tighten as a swell of feelings hit him a lot harder than he'd been expecting. you picked you and he didn't let you. that' the long and short of it, and he hates himself for putting king in that position. ]

[ he nods his head, his eyes closing as he processes the last of what she'd said. ] I'm going to do better next time. I haven't given up, and this misstep is just something I'm going to have to learn from, but I don't want to let anybody down like that again. [ he'll find a way to make a difference. ]

...Then... is there anything I can do to help?

[ he's going to lean over and give her a brief hug. ]

[She's still a bit awkward as she hugs back, but seems less unsure of herself.]

Mm. If I could help at all, I'm glad.

[ he sits back and wipes the remainder of the tears away. ]

Like I said I definitely needed to hear this. Getting an outside perspective was important. And thanks for the sweets too.

Mm! Is there anything I can do to, ah, help... since things had been pretty rough on everybody. [ he reaches for the container she brought and moves it into his lap. ] I don't know if you have anywhere else to be, but if you'd like to watch a movie, maybe unwind or something, ...

[Day 130 timeline is a disaster so WHO KNOWS if she has somewhere else to be. But...]

[ day 130 is the day we all get to bend space and time. ]

[ perks up at that. ] We have a huuuuge library of movies. Mostly, ah, horror, no surprise there, but we've also got a bunch of other, older stuff. [ brings up a list on his phone for her to take a peek at. ]

Did you want something to drink? Maybe some tea to go with these? [ lifts up the container. ]

I think I'd prefer something without gore.

[a little dry, and she glances through the list]

...Tea sounds nice.

I'm more than fine with that. It kinda sucks that those kinds of movies are the majority of what we're able to get.

[ scoots off the seat and heads back into the common room to make some tea. ] I think a black tea might go best with the eclairs, but we have plenty of others... [ and he's kind of thinking lavender chamomile might be nice, at least for himself. ]

As long as it's not too bitter, anything's fine with me.

[continue to peruse the movie list until she eventually picks some old sports movie]

[ hums a response as he sets to brewing the tea. lavender chamomile it is. it's definitely not bitter, so he hopes she likes it. and maybe it'll do her some good too, if she's stressed about what happened. n- not that it's some miracle cure all, but still. ]

[ brings back a couple of mugs and offers her one, looking to see which movie she picked and then relaying it to nafunai. he also asks the ai to dim the lights, the seats reclining as soon as the movie starts. ] You like sports?

[takes the mug and curls her hands around it]

...I'm trying to figure that out.

[ sinks into the seat, giving the tea a small smile before taking a sip. ]

...Did you see Hurricane and Talon's obstacle course? I won it, and they gave me a trophy and everything... that was pretty fun.

In general... seeing how people train their bodies to do things, or doing it myself, is interesting to me...

What, no, I didn’t know we had an obstacle course! N- Not that I, ah, think I could… do it… [ s- sports. ] For real…! Maki, that’s awesome. I wish I could have seen you kick its ass. If Hurricane and Talon made it, then I’m sure it was ~~super special~~ awesome.

It is kinda neat what think about it. We’re capable of so much, and if you train your body just right, then you can do pretty much anything.

There's so much you can do, and yet there are a lot of things that take a very particular kind of skill...

I’m assuming you plan to go back to the obstacle course? If you do maybe I can come along. I know I won’t break any records or anything, but building strength and endurance is definitely a start. And maybe we can make it more interesting by coming up with a couple of challenges or something.

I don't know that there are records to break, exactly. I timed myself, but they judged the winner based on flashiness rather than speed...

And I bet there's still a lot of other stuff you can do with it, yeah.

I could get hype you and you could see how well you can do it at double speed. I imagine that certain parts are easier, but the more coordinated stuff has to be difficult when you're trying to rush straight through.

I wonder if we could add targets to each section. I've been meaning to practice my throwing some more, and just standing in one spot and throwing them in another just isn't really helping me get any better.

Part of the course was actually throwing baseballs at a target, though that was still just standing there... I ended up throwing some knives, too.
