(( from here ))

She sounds like a remarkable god to serve, despite her ferocity. Or perhaps because of it, in some respects.

Why did her people abandon her? Did the book say?

Her ferocity transformed the world. She was also a protector, a mother, and a support to the worshippers that adored her.

A religion rose called "Christianity," which believed that all gods except one where actually false, or evil demons deceiving the people. Their temples were destroyed, their worship was banned by the empire that converted to this new religion. A great deal of knowledge was lost regarding these gods. Even deathless gods are subject to the whims of history.

Nevertheless, perhaps sometime I shall give her an offering. I'm not sure why, and I do not think she shall listen to my prayers, but it could not be any harm.

[ Amaranth looks shocked—horrified, almost; when the surprise fades enough to speak, her expression shifts to a frown ]

What a selfish and short-sighted god, to goad their people to such a tyrannical worship. The very structure of the world might well grind to a halt, without the gods and spirits to oversee it.

Perhaps it would do well for you to give Sekhmet an offering, that she might one day be revitalized by the worship.

I do not think that gods would cease to exist without worship or prayer, would they? Rather, we are brought into a relationship with those forces that sustain us and our worlds.

Not cease to exist, no, but for many gods—where I come from, those that do come from the natural world itself, such as the elements and celestial bodies—it is the needs of their people which shape and sustain them as more than simply spirits.

Hm. That is interesting. I don't know enough of my culture's theology to offer a differing perspective.

Oh, ah— I suppose I never thought of it that way. As theology, I mean.

It is just... the natural way of things, as I've understood it.

[personal profile] nihilmancy 2019-05-25 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the gods are mysterious, so each attempt at understanding the truths of them may be deemed a theology.

Hmm, what else ought I to ask- oh. Would you be interested in sparring with me some time?

Ah, of course. Is there a particular skill you're looking to train?

[personal profile] nihilmancy 2019-05-25 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
My swordsmanship. Perhaps hand-to-hand as well. But also, hmm, I think I need the catharsis of the physical activity, especially right now.

I can sympathize with that.

And, ah, I am happy to assist, though my own instruction is likely strongest in staves and bladed staves like the naginata. I would have to test myself with a sword to be certain of my ability, there.

Regardless, I would be glad to be your opponent.

I would be willing to train with other weapons. In any case, my sword may be quite different from what you are used to.

I have also recruited Shrike as a potential partner in this. Right now, I think I need this to occupy myself with.
