May I ask you something? Why do you and some other people say "-san" and "-chan" after people's names?

Ah -

It's habit for me, but - culturally speaking, these are used to denote respect of various degrees to the person. "-chan" is used for children, girls in particular, and "-san" is used in general as a form of respect.
