I'm certain they all have some kind of reason. I don't remember enough of my world to determine anything specific. But I know enough of them leave destruction behind themselves.

In my own experience, the world is cruel, with humans who would oppress and kill each other for little reason - skin color, gender, religion, or for even pettier reasons like wealth or power. A service dedicated to protecting the peace existed on a smaller level, but it was merely a tool for more cruelty.

Though times have since changed - humans, it seems, have not.
