If there was a door for each angel [what he's gathering from talking to other folks] does that mean the number of angels was changing while you were there?

... I'm not sure. But it didn't shift until around the time Mehniel woke up.

Well... to be exact, the space shifted twice.

When I first walked in, it almost seemed to sprawl out forever, as far as the eye can see - but it quickly shifted into a more manageable space. I thought I was seeing things at first, but... well, I didn't count the rooms after that. There were a few dozen by that point, maybe.

It was after that that it shifted down to exactly eight.

Once the portal closed, apparently seven people were left behind, plus the angel. That's eight.
