I don't know... I guess it's possible they could have fled. But where does an angel go when it's forced to leave Heaven?

We might not have seen all of Heaven. We didn't really get to look around much, and if there were more weird doors like the one leading to Mehniel's room, then it's possible we overlooked something.

Maybe... but they seemed pretty frantic, didn't they? It's like they could already sense no one else was there anymore.

True. Do we know if Heaven has a hierarchy like Hell? Maybe they couldn't get into some of the other parts either, again... assuming there are any. But, no, you're right. Her feathers were really ruffled.

It would add an extra layer of cruelty if they just left a lower-ranked angel behind when they fled.

Did they really flee? What if they were called to battle? The lower ranked angels would be the first called to arms. Where we were did have a tower and some battlements. We could have just been looking around the barracks.

If they were called to battle and didn't return, then...
