Daemons are... uhh... they're creatures that live in dark places. They come in all shapes and sizes, and they kinda boil up from the ground. They're a byproduct of... a parasite, I think? People and animals that die from it sort of, like... melt, and reform as daemons somehow. I'm not sure how it works, exactly.

I'm kinda unclear about demons, honestly. I guess sometimes they can talk, and you can summon them, make deals or contracts with them, and they can possess people? Which is all different from daemons, as far as I know.

Pink broadcasted a memory that had a demon in it. It was made of plants, and belonged to one of his classmates, I think? It was apparently friendly and benign, which is also different from daemons.

So just different strands of nightmare fuel, I see.

Pink comes from a world with demons? No wonder he's unfazed by all the bullshit that goes around here.

Yeah. He knows a lot about them, too. By the way he talks, I think they might be pretty common where he's from.

[Points to the screen as if it were still showing the memory]

Was the person behind the counter who I think it was?

It was Thorn! Can you believe it?! It turns out we're from the same place!

You didn't have any idea?

[shakes his head] I only found out just now!

Uhh, but I didn't recognize him in the memory. He was a stranger.

I see. How many memories have you taken?

[we_meet_again]

This is my third one!

[bluescreenwhitedragon]

And thus begins the arc between you and Thorn. Not nervous about how the producers are going to play that out for you?

I honestly have no idea what to expect.

What's it like with you guys? You've got four other people here from Before, right?

[bluescreenwhitedragon]

Yes. And as far as I can tell we just get into card game death matches.

[we_meet_again]

So I guess things are pretty much the same, then?

[bluescreenwhitedragon]

[Laughs at that]

Right.

So that means probably a different arc for you. Otherwise it would be boring.

[we_meet_again]

I have no idea what the connection might be between Thorn and I. Maybe nothing? For all I know, that was the only time we met.

So I guess our arc -- if we have one -- is an exciting mystery for the future!

I'm going to go with friends or lovers torn apart by an unfortunate misunderstanding.

A mysterious meeting seems like a good opener for that kind of thing.

That sounds a lot better than being enemies! Fingers crossed, I guess!

Please. Then they would have front loaded the awful memories in their desperate pull for ratings.

This has to be something more... subtle.

Is that how the memories get selected? Drama potential?

If that's the case, surely they could have done better than all the mundane ones I've gotten so far. Tsk tsk!

Do you remember what I looked like when I got here?

[Gets out his phone and opens up the photo album (wow this is just becoming a Thing now) and scrolls all the way to the beginning. He offers the phone to Intensity.]

These were taken on my second day.

[If Intensity scrolls, he'll see photos from pep!pep!'s first field trip to the onsen. There are lots of pictures of Cobalt mixed in, both selfies and photos from others, and he looks completely run into the ground. He's desperately lean, sickly, with twenty dark bags under each eye and skin so pale it's almost translucent. He looks almost like a corpse. There are photos of him in the bath areas where he's wearing a towel around his waist and one can see large scars on his arms, legs, back, and (of course) face, which are bright against his splotchy white skin.

By comparison, Cobalt of today is still thin, but he's already started putting on a lot of healthy weight. His hair is glossy, eyes are bright, his skin is full of color, and he looks well-rested. It's a big difference.]

They can't lure me into a false sense of security when I came in here looking like that.

[Looks at the photos. Then at Cobalt. Then back at the photos]

Ah.

So you might be one of the ones who don't have anything worth going back for.
