[ He puffs a few notes on two of the pipes, back and forth to test how they play off each other, then shaves a bit more off the one on the left. ]

...I don't know. How do I decide?

[ Another few notes, and he seems to like the result better this time. ]

...Um... I've done the first one, and I enjoyed it very much.
...But I've never done the second, so I don't know how it would compare to the first.

One out of two is a good start. Have you ever done anything that felt very rushed and required you to improvise, and you were unsure of what the result would be?

If it wouldn't be too impertinent, I could make a very-slightly-educated guess about what you might prefer. Bearing in mind that any inaccuracies are doubtless the result of my amnesia-addled mind.
Or I could play a tune for you and put aside such lofty philosophy for another time. The choice is yours; I get the feeling I'm easily pleased.

...But I'd like to hear more music from the instrument that you've made as well. Hmm.
...Deciding which one I prefer more is rather troublesome.

I have a suggestion: I could do one and then the other. Then you'd know for sure which you prefer at the end, and that's useful in helping you get to know yourself better, isn't it?

Now then! [ he acts like he's pondering for a second; he doesn't truly need the time, but no one likes to think themselves easily figured out. ]
You're very curious, and meticulous in the answers you seek. You prefer to have as much information as possible before making a decision, very admirable. Assumptions and suppositions are not things you'd make lightly, greatly preferring to have a depth of knowledge from which to speak and act. However, you're open to suggestions and willing to consider what strengths others bring to bear, great assets indeed.
Based on this I'd assume that you might prefer to stay out of trouble, as most often it can result in unexpected outcomes and needing to make decisions quickly and at times impulsively.
-- This is based on only the last few moments I've had the pleasure to be acquainted with you, granted.

...I see. You've thought this over very carefully; thank you.
...Of course, I have no way of knowing whether you're right or wrong. I don't know what kind of 'self' I have.
...But it's true that I'm very curious. So you're right about that, at least.

Curiosity is a quality we share, certainly, yet I can say entirely without bias that I think it's a good one, particularly in a new place.

[ He finishes lashing his carved reeds together with the grass, and gives them some glancing blows to triple check that they're in tune properly. ]

...I met a man who was fascinated by the ornamental trees. It was refreshing to see them from a new perspective.
...Shandy-kun permitted me to pet his ears. He made some strange sounds; that was quite interesting. His ears are very soft.

Should I play you something, then? [ He sounds a few quick notes on his pipes, the sound is bright as a new moon and lively as a leaping hare. ] Another experience for your consideration.

[ He proceeds to play a light, airy song with the certainty and ease of someone well-practiced. It's a relaxing melody, but sprightly enough not to drag anyone to sleep. ]
(( OOC: I looked forever to try and find a decent song and only found versions of the Kill Bill pan flute song but the beginning of this should give some idea what it sounds like! ))

...That was wonderful. Thank you.

...Though there's also joy to be had in making music for one's own sake, I think.

But for me personally, I prefer the company. At least given what little I know of myself thus far.
no subject
...And people can be quite interesting, I think.
