[ You are in an elevator, and it is not ascending into the Game Tower, no. This time, it's taking you down. You can feel it in the pit of your stomach, watch through the glass chassis as stone scrolls up and away and all around you becomes darkness.

And then, a screen flickers on. A bright, cheerful woman with fluffy pigtails waves at you with one hand, a brightly colored plastic crazy straw that's been speared through a few mango chunks in her other. Exael winks and speaks to the camera.

"And with summer comes what we all look forward to~ Summer Break! It's time to get away from hot stuffy Tokyo, and get away from it all! And so, everyone, we've brought your faa~avorite idols home here to you! In one of our very special hotels, for a very special game! Clasp your hands in prayer, hope real hard, and maybe you'll get a front row seat to their presence in the Hotel Omphalos!"

"May this show grant you Mirth, because soon starts—"

The broadcast cuts out.

The light does not return, as the elevator doors open. Instead, color so bright it can't be drowned out by the darkness spills in, and erodes the car away. You are left standing in an unfamiliar Hotel, and the game is just beginning. ]

[ Welcome to the Hotel Omphalos! You're welcome to explore, for as long you want! Stay safe, stay sane, and the goal of the game is to explore as many rooms of the hotel as you can-- first come, and first serve! Only the first person to explore a room gets the points for it.

If you don't stay safe and sane, though, don't worry! We've set a special condition so all the losers can still play. Follow your scripts, and act your hearts out! ♥ ]

OOC Instructions:

Each team will have their traitor goal provided in a locked post of their starting room. Do not share your goal OOC, though do pay attention to other players' Do Not Wants when violence does occur.

Each room will be described with one paragraph of flavor text, which you can use to interact with each other but does not mechanically do anything or have dice rolls. Following the flavor text, the exits/entrances to the room will be listed, with one additional paragraph listing any other effects the room may have attached. Interacting with specific aspects listed after the entrances may give you stat bonuses, or stat detriments. Be aware of that! Flavor text from the first paragraph has no stat stuff attached.

Ping the runner the first time you enter a room, so we can get the description up for you.

The first time a room is entered, the first post will be descriptive. The second comment beneath that will be an event/item, unless the room does not have one attached, which would be noted in the first comment. Please wait for the second comment before responding to top-levels if you are the first person in a room.

If you are not the first person to go through a room, you can just comment beneath the top-level, there will not be another event/item for it.

Make rolls in the Discord roll channel as necessary. Rolls are made with 3 sided dice, minus the number of dice you're rolling, so zero is possible. Use the command .roll Xd3-X in the #dicebot channel on Discord, with X being the number of dice you're rolling.

If your character loses all of one stat, they lose the battle of the wills to the House. All their personal morals and concerns are overridden. If it helps, think of it as being possessed by a vengeful spirit. Those who have turned traitor do not get points for exploring rooms. The possessed do not need to reveal their status OOC to other players, as many Traitor goals need to be performed in certain areas-- it is up to player preference if you are going to overpower another PC and drag them there, or trick them to going somewhere with you. All traitor characters know the whole map. The insanity effect is temporary, and lasts only as long as the game does. Characters turn traitor on an individual basis; if a character hits a sanity break, it will not also impact their unitmates.

Stat sheet changes and traitor status both carry over into a new session. If your character ended a session with +2 might and -1 speed from their starting positions, they will start their next session with +2 might and -1 speed from their starting positions. If they turn traitor, they will remain a traitor until endgame.

Any team that completes a traitor goal is automatically a winner. If less than half the units complete their traitor goals, then the remaining winning units will be those who explored the most rooms.

BASEMENT LANDING

[ You enter the Basement Landing. It’s clean and well-kept, like someone scrubs it down once… or twice… or five times a day, although some clubgoer has very recently scrawled some lovey-dovey graffiti onto the brilliant tile in neon sharpie. The scent of bleach is strong here, and it’s nauseating as chemical cleaners always are. Underground the area isn’t well ventilated. There’s nowhere for that scent to escape to and you’ve been trapped down here with it. Signs advertise the various businesses to be found—a nightclub, a fortune-teller, some kind of “revitalization treatment” service?

There is, for whatever reason, also the acrid smell of… paper burning? It’s strong, but under the chemicals it takes a second for you to notice.

NIGHTCLUB

[ You enter the Nightclub. The room is dark, lit by roving colorful spotlights in hypnotic patterns and occasional strobe effects. The darkness, how crowded it is, and the relentless beat of the music almost make it feel claustrophobic, but there’s also an electric, alluring sort of energy running through the whole place.

The DJ, across the dance floor, wears an ornate masquerade mask that feels like it should be in some metallic filigree but is instead done in neon purple. Or was it orange? Every time you look back, the room seems to shift and swirl around you, too…

The attendant looks pretty bored, and keeps glancing toward the West corridor in a longing sort of way, so basically this is all free stuff, right?

REVITALIZATION TREATMENT CENTER

[ You enter the Revitalization Treatment Center. It has a clean, well-appointed lobby with comfortable plush couches and bright, natural lighting, and someone who greets you cheerfully when you come in, although apparently there’s a very long wait list for anyone who isn’t a VIP.

On the coffee tables scattered around are binders… each full of slipcovered profiles of young, beautiful people and their credentials and blood types. What kind of spa are they running here?

Once per game, you can try this treatment and gain 1 physical trait.

Someone must’ve come through here with the cleaning cart recently, but it’s awful with the chemical smell of solvents and sickly-sweet scented soap—what did they have to clean up, here?

1: Lose 1 Might and 1 Speed.

LAUNDRY*

[ You enter the laundry room. The floor tremors, shaking in a perpetual earthquake with all the machines rattling. Inside machines clothes tumble and shine, sequins and cheap polyester shines and reflects, tossed in with sheets that under the perpetual ultraviolet of Liar Hell tell a history that any hotel would prefer to hide. Cabinets full of chemicals hang above the rolling drums of the machinery, to hide or in the worst case dissolve away the worst of the patron’s sins. The rumble jostles them, and some bottles precariously teeter at the edge. Some bottles have already spilled on the floor, hardly improving the experience of walking through a room already always in motion.

Near the exits are stacks of freshly pressed hotel staff uniforms, each with a matching set of perfect, spotless gloves. Besides them, a grate to a wall incinerator.

[ You enter the Fortune-Telling booth. In contrast to the rest of this building, it’s dark here, lit in shades of dark purple from the heavy curtains surrounding the room… but no less ostentatious, with many sparkling crystals hanging from the ceiling, jingling lightly as you enter, and a table littered with the implements of fortune-telling—tarot cards, a crystal ball, divination runes.

The Oracle will do a reading for you just once, her milky eyes staring through you into the future. She uses none of her instruments, merely traces your face and features with her soft hands and renders unto you a vision that contains knowledge, if you're unlucky, or words that give you peace, if you are.

Once per game, gain one point in a mental trait here.

Once per room, when you make a Sanity or Knowledge roll, you may reroll any number of those dice.

POOL

[ You enter the pool deck. Underground, the pool takes advantage of its location, walls sculpted more than built to emulate a cavern underground. It’s undeniably beautiful, but aesthetic concerns have come far before safety. The ground outside the pool is uneven, and from patches of slick reflective rock, stalagmite spires jutt out less as handholds and more as hazards. And, in the deep diving end of the pool, you can’t see beneath the surface: the only lights in this area are blue pinpricks, atmospheric but not luminous.

You’re safer crossing this area in the pool, than on land. Once per game, gain 1 Speed by training here.

Strobe
The lights in this room pulse with a flickering intensity like a heartbeat, punctuated by complete darkness. Your heart falls into the rhythm, with the lights and the relentless beat of the music, and for a second you almost feel like the floor’s fallen out from under you, leaving you in space—and then the lights come back on, and you’re somewhere else entirely.
Your character is moved to a place of the runner's choosing.

DOCUMENT EXPIRY

[ You enter the Document Expiry room and are immediately hit with shreds of paper flying everywhere. Paper is, in fact, raining down from above, shredded to pieces by the many, many criss-crossed cutting blades lining the room. You’re in a room-sized paper-shredder. Who could possibly need to destroy these many documents?

There’s not that much time to wonder, though, because they’re not really discriminatory about what they cut. If this is your character’s first time in this room for this session, take 1 point of physical damage.

The loudspeaker crackles overhead, and you’re startled to realize that it’s an announcement of your presence on this very floor, mentioning that you might be available for autograph signing or handshake events… and you can already feel the floor rumbling with footsteps.
Each character on the floor where this is triggered must attempt a Speed roll:
4+: You don’t panic, and stay put—if you don’t call attention to yourself, you’ll be harder to find.
1-3: You have to get out of here! If there’s more than one adjacent room, roll a die with sides equal to the number of adjacent rooms to determine which one you flee to.

GROUND FLOOR LANDING

[ You enter the staircase landing. A small, utilitarian staircase heads down to the basement level, while the stairway up to the second floor is a grand, sweeping affair with deep blue carpet and perfectly polished, shining silver banisters.

MOSH PIT

[ You enter the Mosh Pit. The music here thuds loud and bone-shaking, and the crowd is loving it—fists and elbows and red solo cups flying everywhere. You could get trampled in here, if you're not careful, and it seems like some people already have, from the smudges of blood you see on clothes and alarming sticky pools on the floor. It doesn't dampen anyone's enthusiasm, though—it's all part of the party! The more intense the time, the more you feel alive, right?

Filled with the silhouette damned. You can hear their chatter but it’s difficult to move through the crowd. Add 1 to the results of Knowledge rolls here, and subtract 1 from the results of speed rolls here (minimum 0)

You see a glass cage, and—blink, and you’re inside it. But no one seems to see or hear you.
You must attempt a Sanity roll:

0-1: You're really in that cage. Lose 1 Sanity and 1 Might as you bash your hands through the glass and scream yourself hoarse to be heard. If the Hall of Mirrors or the Lost and Found has been found, the character is moved to one (player choice).

ATM & GASHAPON

[ A quiet, largely-empty and slightly musty hallway but for a handful of ATMs lined up next to a row of Imeeji Idol Productions gashapon machines that dispense stickers, photocards, and low-budget figurines of random idols. There's a promise of some special seasonal SSR figures that are… hm. Bloodstained, murderous, with missing limbs and eyes. That sure is a theme. Only 50 points a play!

At the front, attendants direct you further into the building—perhaps you're here for a casino weekend, or to stay in the hotel? The pool's open! Wouldn't you like to take in a show? Though they're quick to mention that you really shouldn't try to leave out the front doors right now—after all, the filming, remember? That and the sharp drop off of a skyscraper. That's also… important.

There's a strangely large number of sharp cooking knives in here, considering it doesn't even have a stove.You may go South, or West.]

[ You enter the Kitchen. And oh, does it smell heavenly. They’re in the middle of setting up some truly impressive chocolate sculptures, putting together trays of pastry swans, plating some very tiny but heartbreakingly beautiful dishes. Every prep station on each long stainless-steel countertop is meticulously kept, with its own set of colorful utensils, like a rainbow.

Strangely, even though all the surfaces are kept well-polished, you never quite see yourself in any of the surfaces… it’s like looking into a kaleidoscope, or at a you that’s just a little different. Maybe just a little better.

Seven Years Bad Luck
You forge ahead, and run straight into what you didn’t realize was a mirror amid the shifting, glowing lights. It shatters, and you stumble to avoid the jagged, sparkling pieces littering the floor.
Assign numbers to all your items, and roll a die to find which will be affected, then discard the chosen item.

BUFFET

[ You enter the Buffet. The decor here is a little dated—maybe next in line for renovations—but definitely cheerful, with a bright-colored geometric carpet pattern that kind of hurts to look at. At one end of this long, noisy room is a long table lined with dishes in polished metal covers, warm and ready for serving onto the stack of freshly-washed plates at one end. A helpful sign directs patrons looking for a “private dining experience” to check upstairs, but honestly, this place seems pretty good.

It’s crowded, here, though, and it’s a little hard not to feel like you’re being watched. You can almost feel like whispers follow you wherever you go… but can’t quite make out what they’re saying.

Dubstep
A pounding, danceable rhythm that fills your ears and gives you a nasty headache.
There’s dance music playing in this room that’s loud enough to rattle your bones. All characters roll 1 fewer die (min. 1) on all trait rolls while in this room.

BAR

[ You enter the Bar. It’s surprisingly quiet, here, with muted, upbeat jazz playing from speakers tucked away somewhere, and a bar long enough to give you some space. Curtained booths are set against the back wall for quiet dining or clandestine meetings. The specials menu gives a full array of… poison-themed cocktails?

At the other end of the room, a single spotlight shines on a raised stage, with a microphone, almost as if waiting for a show to begin.

This is a dead end; you can only return West. ]

Haze
The room fills with a sweet-scented smoke, and as it fills your lungs, you feel yourself relaxing, sleepy...
You may choose to inhale. Characters fall into a hazy, relaxed sleep, only to reappear elsewhere... possibly with a new perspective.
Roll 3 dice:
0: Emerge in the Entrance Hall. You've lost something. Discard an item.
1-2. You are somehow changed. You emerge in the entrance hall, but your character stats have changed to one of the other stat sheet "types" and been reset to starting values.
3-4: You emerge in a random unexplored room. If all rooms are explored, a random occupied room.
5-6: You emerge in a random unexplored room. If all rooms are explored, a random occupied room. Gain an item

SECOND FLOOR LANDING

[ You arrive on the Second Floor Landing. The floor here is immaculately polished—glass, in fact, so that you can see through to the bustling Casino floor below. It makes you feel a little exposed, though…

You can go West or South, from here, as well as down to the Ground Floor or up to the Third Floor. ]

LOCKED ROOM

[ You enter the Locked Room. As you enter, the door clicks shut behind you with a gentle snick of a lock sliding into place—although if there's anything in here worth keeping behind closed doors, it's a little unclear, apart from some vintage stage act posters. Are they really that desperate to keep unauthorized individuals from accessing the single solitary coffee vending machine in here?

...on the other hand, it does have a really impressively robust menu and some deeply unusual flavored syrups you can get added into your coffee. Rosemary, lavender, cayenne, durian… blood?

There's a lock on each door of this room. To enter or exit through a locked door, attempt a knowledge roll of 3+ to remove the lock.

Blind Box
What limited-edition item is inside? Just bleed on the seal to find out!
Once in each room, when someone in the room you're in (including yourself) takes physical damage, you may draw an item card.
If you become a traitor, you cannot hold or use this item. Leave it where you found it, or drop it if you were already holding it.

ROULETTE ROOM

[ You enter the Roulette Room. It sprawls wide and long across a green carpet styled to look like a lawn, and all the walls painted with a startlingly realistic outdoor scene of an old-fashioned park scene with croquet and other lawn sports—wait, did that figure move? And in fact, on closer inspection, it's not a painting, but full wraparound screens projecting a long loop.

And dotted across the faux-lawn, as far as the eye can see, are roulette tables, every single one nearly full up, with people trying their hand at winning big. A server walking by offers you a glass of fresh-pressed gin-and-lemonade and a complimentary stack of chips to give it a first go—and, of course, if you're not satisfied with just that, they refer you to the kiosk for more of either. As ever, it's only the first hit that's free—but there's so many ways to pay, if you ask.

Hell Glitter
You enter the room, and raucous cheer goes up as glitter and confetti rain from the ceiling onto you, and by God does it get everywhere, clinging to you and getting in your nose and mouth and eyes and—
You must attempt a Might roll:
4+: You shake it off. Gain 1 Might.
0-3: The glitter clings to you persistently. Keep this effect. Take 1 point of physical damage each time you change rooms. Discard this card if an item card increases one of your traits, or if you find the Balcony, Gardens, Graveyard, Pool, Buffet, Bathroom, or Plastic Surgeon.

PROP ROOM*

[ You enter the Prop Room. Are you ready to put on a sparkling performance? Because if not, this room has you covered—from costumes to costume jewelry to miscellaneous simple items and small items of prop furniture. It's like a cavern full of fabric and set dressing. You're pretty sure you could get lost in here.

In the center of the room, though, there are some props for a very particular kind of performance, very carefully displayed: bejeweled daggers, crossbows, swords, revolvers, and—strictly a little more functional than they really need to be for the stage.

This is a dead end; you can only go East from here.

When entering this room for the first time, you get two items—choose one to keep. Discard the other as useless. There is also a secret passage in this room. ]
