Betrayal Session 15
Who: You lot
When: To be inserted into the timeline after completion
What: Betrayal at the House on the Game Tower
[ The game starts with you in elevators, the doors jammed shut. You can keep an eye on the city further and further below you, but there's no introduction to today's game.
It's just as well. Those of you who recognize it need no introduction to it. Those of you who don't couldn't be prepared by any host's opening spiel, anyway.
The elevator stops atop the central tower of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building and then lurches unpleasantly, wrenching itself out of where elevators ought to go. The sudden movement jolts you, and when the doors open you spill out into a room.
Hopefully, with not too much time missing. ]

Re: BASEMENT LANDING
Re: BASEMENT LANDING
[ Talon sure does not want to be here at all! He's pulling to get free, determined to try to get back the way they came ]
Re: BASEMENT LANDING
she lets go.
Too bad it's milliseconds too late: before he can rush back into the fray, the doors slam shut. ... Actually they probably can't even be called doors so much as maybe bars? or perhaps a brick wall has slammed down. this isn't exactly your traditional hallway. in any case
he ain't getting back there this time. ]
1/2
For a long moment he stands frozen, staring at them in shocked disbelief. Maybe he expects them to be another hallucination? ]
Re: BASEMENT LANDING
What did you DO?!
Re: BASEMENT LANDING
[ Her head hurts, from his yelling, from the way it echoes off the cold, stony walls, threatening to disorient her. It... was Avante that was the problem, weren't they? Talon... was coughing... but he's not anymore. And suddenly--he doesn't look so powerless, but seems to loom, a violent, angry threat looming far, far too close for comfort. She backs away, cowering unconsciously. ]
You were sick and weak. People like that... they look for and target people that can't defend themselves...!
[ But she's not so sure now. Is Talon unable to defend himself? Is he not a threat himself? He's... becoming aggressive... her head throbs, hard enough that she can feel a star between her eyes, and she presses her hands to her face. Is the person here that's weak and about to be hurt--is it really her? ]
I was only trying to help...!
Re: BASEMENT LANDING
[ He's furious. The smoke and sparks he's been breathing this whole time are giving away to little bursts of flame, his features contorting hatefully. The cough he couldn't shake before really has stopped, vanishing at the same moment the rooms locked down.
His voice still cracks while he's screaming at her, thick with emotion. ]
That's my brother! He needed— He needs help! I could have helped him and you fucking—!
[ He sucks in a sharp and shaky breath, trying to ignore the muffled sounds of combat from the other room. ]
If he dies now it is YOUR FAULT!
???
Her fault? Is it... her fault? ]
Re: BASEMENT LANDING
Re: BASEMENT LANDING
Re: BASEMENT LANDING
[ How... could he say something like that? It feels like her heart is breaking. Her head, certainly, is splitting in two--and if the doors weren't shut, she'd run away right now. He's so frightening. How... could she have thought that this person was in need of defending? He's smoking, sparks and fumes coming off him as though he were burning up from the inside out. Like the hate in his heart was fueled by actual fire. ]
I only wanted to help you. Because I thought... you were my friend. Haku's friend. Because your brother wouldn't want to know you died because he couldn't protect you.
...
But you... you're... really no friend of ours, are you?
[ How could a friend be so threatening? How could they say it was all her fault? When she's not in control of this house. Those bullies, swinging their weapons.
How can he say she's wrong? How--can-- ]
Re: BASEMENT LANDING
... You made me think that you needed help--that you were like me--and you blame me for it? I never touched him! I never even tried!
[ it's not the same it's not the same she's not like them she's not she's not
there's a searing pain in her head and a deep nausea in her stomach. yes, she's killed, but--they--they deserved it. they were going to kill her first, all of them, even the ones who were pretending they weren't. she knows she knows even wednesday was the same they've all gone bad rotting from the inside out
and this one
this one she can see the vapors of that rot rising out of his lungs ]
You're just the same.
[ If she doesn't do something, she's going to die again. He'll kill her, again. And he'll laugh, he'll think it's funny, he'll say she deserved it
for being weak, for being her, for not letting him die for not saving his brother for killing the others for being weaker than him ]
Re: BASEMENT LANDING
[ It can't end that way again. She won't let it. She starts rummaging into her collection of items--and pulls out a pistol. ]

But it isn't.
They'd been so close to safety. In spite of all the obstacles that had been thrown at them, the death he'd felt nipping at his heels. One second faster and he could've dodged her and stayed behind, given Jay a fighting chance at survival. Or escaped with him through the other exit. Or—anything.
Instead, he's here. Alone, for all he cares. Painfully aware that his brother is outnumbered—and it's her fault, isn't it? If she's only listened to him then this could all be different!
He doesn't flinch throughout her accusations. His shoulders squaring and already vicious scowl sharpening dangerously. His uncaring demeanor is only marred by the furious tears beginning to well up in his eyes. ]
That's right. You never. Even. Tried. You didn't care about him at all!
Re: BASEMENT LANDING
It's your fault!

She won't let it end like this. She doesn't even remember raising her gun; it's suddenly just level as she aims for his head, finger already pulling on the trigger then knocking back the hammer with her thumb to reload faster than she can breathe. Not once, or even twice, but three times.
Speed roll:
Dice rolled: 81 - 3
Rolls
1 1 1 2 2 2 2 3
Sum
14 + 0 - 8 = 6 ]

Talon's barely grabbed his own gun, racing to raise it when she fires. The first shot catches him just over his left eye, and he drops the weapon before it's even half raised, expression going slack. It's clear he's already gone before the other shots ever hit him.
He drops to the ground in a heap, thudding dully. ]

And then the tremors refill her body with a vengeance as some fraction of the weight of what she's done hits. ]
I'm safe. I'm safe. I'm safe...
[ Her tears continue to flow freely. Why is that? She... should be happy. Surely, this is happiness! It's okay now. She's safe. Safe....
She slips down to the floor, bringing her knees up to her chest and waits for the darkness to take her to the next reset. ]
