I don't see why I need to have a-- specific reason, to think someone is nice at first glance. That's what a first impression is. Things change over time-- if you need to wait until then to make a first impression, why bother at all?
You're the one who said we should get to know each other in the first place, besides; usually that sort of offer means you actually want to try befriending someone.
