The fact that you even have to ask that means you have no hope of understanding. I've been through my own personal hell on earth, and then been in actual hell, "tormented," yes, but perhaps more importantly, progressively losing my sense of self until I'm left a shell of a personality and a silhouette of a person.

And you have to ask what I'd have to gain...?
